LT. FYI. Many engineers in London use public transport to get to jobs. Stores get delivered to site, the engineers carry hand tools for the most part so no need for the cost of a van, parking, congestion charge etc. Admittedly that only applies to central business areas, as for your village they probably don't want you to know they are there so camaflarge as Sky vans !!!!

Yup. Back in 2008 and the banks screwing it all up, BT had concerns that it may need to cut staff , roll back internal investment and cut spending on network expansion. What happened was, people decided that having BB was a necessity so the income did not slip, companies with the budget to, updated there networks in readiness for better days and BT kept its staff as they did not need to make any redundant due to the crash. They spent time and money on internal investment and network expansion, and the share price rose on the back of that. So a lesson from history, telecoms should see investors getting back in and a rise in the coming 6-18 months.

Well Cpt, don't mince your words !!! BP Dependent upon which pension you are in. Section A,B,C the older ones then when a pensioner "exits" if they have a spouse then they would receive half pension until they "exit" as long as an expression of wish has been filled.
In answer to Cpt, do you really believe that it would have an impact on such a very very small part of the population over say 60. Guess you might loose an extra 5-10 !!!!!!

Thanks Fleccy. Thing is many sites co host all operators at the moment or a couple of them" also there are lots of locations that have a cluster of masts on the same pice of land, eg farms. As has been said, BT has many locations they could rent out access to for the other operators rather than letting them co locate as at present, ie remote exchanges. Has it's up side as well as a down, not a game changer in urban areas but may well be in rural, in BTs favour.

I won't pretend to be an expert in tax and reporting of a company's finances but Fleccy makes a good point in respect of leases. Many years ago BT sold many of its exchange buildings to a property company that involved leasing them back with a contract for maintenance included. Think the reasoning was, to reduce building and staff costs for maintaining them. So should that rent be seen as debt or a running cost, if seen as debt then could not the same be said for power, water etc. In fact they wanted to remove the water supply to rural exchanges to reduce costs about 15 years ago !!!

Aus. In the past, going back boyond the last 7-8 years then maintaining the network was a high cost to BT. The local loop was in a mess before that due partly to management not understanding guide what was needed to maintain it, measures on staff ment that quality of work suffered. That has now been realised and reformed over the last 10 years, and the loop is now in a good condition. Higher end products that used to be delivered by copper, dwss, PDH, cwss, etc was fairly unreliable, when I was on call out, doing 1 in 4 weeks I would get called at least once a week in the 80s and 90s in the early 2000s that dropped of a lot as fibre wholly derived products became the norm and today anything other than BB is almost 100% fibre. So the maintenance costs are reducing rapidly. Going forward this will mean less staff, less faults, and less cost to running the network as a full fibre one. So say 10 years ago BT needed to allow say 15% of income per connection to maintain it, going forward it could be as low as say 5%.

Aus. Not sure if Three is a good example for your positioning. Yes they have there own network but only own the Mobil kit the connectivity is almost completely BT derived, so are reliant on others to build there network. At present 5g is probably being marketed as a loss leader to get numbers. EE is part of BT so not reliant on others foe there physical network.
