The thing is Fleccy most ISPs only build local networks then interface it into BT core, that is there limitation to traffic, it can only go as fast as the local network data rate, let’s say a max of 10gig. BT wholesale tends to go directly into the core, or over a smaller, less loaded local network. The ISPs dont want the cost of lots of core access, so when demand increases there can be a tendency for there networks to struggle. LT. Have said several times you have an issue that requires investigation, have suggested a way forward, it’s down your persistence to get a resolution. As far as your supplier is conserned when they test or reset it’s fine, tick in box go away. It’s not right but it’s the way they all work, dependent upon remote testing, because most of the people on the ground with experience are now pulling there BT pension and unfortunately the new people do not get in depth training and time with experienced staff, just the way it is, no matter what industry you look at.

Has the penny started to drop. The services BT provide are backing up broadcasters when presenters are unable to attend the studio due to Covid19. Twice now today I have seen presenters providing input, in the case of GMB this morning as a presenter is self isolating, and gave input into a piece about the present situation. Then this evening on BBC The one show, Mat Baker co presented from home for the same reason. Without BT and it’s local and core products this could not have happened. We may see more of this in the coming days, who knows it could be part of the future, cost reductions for presenters not having to always be in the studio to do the job. Now perhaps people will start to think that maybe Network is king after all...Stay safe.

Really sorry to have to say this but, LT is correct my post was in relation to FTTP rollout. Guess there’s a first time for everything !

The fibre rollout is estimated to be almost complete by 2025, yes some of that may slip but not that much maybe 12-18 months for extremely remote locations. It’s very doable by 2025 the actual network build is fairly straightforward, most delays would probably be outside of there control. Things such as permits for laying of new ducts and access to private land in rural areas. Any big project has its time scale issues, some bits take longer but others come in on times or sooner. Once it’s in place then we have a very resilient national network with access for all should they wish. Then a reduction in staffing costs and associated costs, reduced maintenance costs and new products to put on the ends.

I did say a few months ago that it sounded like a line fault and reiterated that the other day when talking about the fault being cleared by remote testing. Likely to keep happening until someone decides it needs passive faulting, that will require you to insist on that approach going forward. Your fault history should back up your request. As I have said even with tech knowledge and contacts it’s a difficult path to follow.

LT. it would appear that your line has had a RAT test, remote automated test, from either the exchange or FTTC depending on your product. Basically it tests the conunitity of your line. The problem with this is, if you have a fault relating to poor connections in the network, as this test applies a power feeding voltage it can blow the fault clean away, only for it to return in days or weeks. If you can show this keeps happening by recording times and dates it is failing and what speed you are getting at the time, that may help in getting someone out to look deeper than remote testing. Believe me I know, it took me 3 months to get a similar fault on my line resolved, and I have experience and contacts to assist.
