Small-cap drug developer Synairgen (LON:SNG) looks to have discovered a life-saving treatment for acute cases of coronavirus (COVID-19).

It said the results from a recent trial “could signal a major breakthrough in the treatment of hospitalised patients”.

The shares soared 193% early on to 107p. Mark Brewer, an analyst at finnCap, has increased his price target for the stock to 360p.

He noted that quantifying the coronavirus opportunity was “nigh on impossible” as he admitted the valuation “could go substantially higher”.

What happens next will depend on the “upcoming discussions with regulators, which should clarify the route to market and the potential for buying SNG001 ahead of the winter 2020 flu season and the possibility of a second wave of COVID-19”

The reason why it retraced was simple. It was taking a breather. It did it in the morning and then just after lunch. Both times and then pushed back up again.

Right now those who have heard about SNG are a number of people who will only increase this afternoon, this evening and tomorrow morning. As they had a media conference with all the press today where the press were basically asking SNG how to write the articles because 79% reduction in potential death and complications for acute covid19 is huge!!! So they wanted to write the story correctly.

The Guardian basically asked SNG how to report the news on todays RNS.

They asked how to present the 79% in terms of reducing acute cases of Covid19 which can lead to complications and death.

The response by SNG is it can reduce your "odds" of going on to get severe Covid19 which can lead to death by 79%
