I have no issue with Deeks challenging LFTs and urging caution. I take issue with the way he does it and his lack of ingenuity on how to drive forward progress. He uses a broad brush to discredit them and doesn’t provide any useful or practical mitigations or alternatives. When asked on Twitter about that - he said that isn’t my job. That really sums it up - he feels it his sole job to discredit LFTs and clearly enjoys the job whilst claiming to be thrust into the spotlight. Whilst Innova was inferior the results for professional use were far better. What does that tell you?? Education and training is required. Make no mistake people - if Avacta get great results and it is used as the sovereign LFT, Deeks will be all over like a bad rash saying I told you so the first time someone somewhere gets a false negative and infects a bunch of ravers in Somerset. The infectious one probably put it in his ear but doesn’t want to mention it because he had a sore throat but really wanted to party. My point is that any LFT will have user issues and will be an honour system where not done professionally but it will certainly reduce transmission significantly and hopefully slow down mutations so we can get in with our lives.

I don’t doubt this a possibility. The plot thickens and this is the longest rollercoaster ride.... I just wish there was more transparency and less interpretation required for the RNS’s. We know that we have only one month left before we know most of the story. I guess we have waited 11 months nearly - what is one more month??

E23 - if that were the main subject of Deeks’ narrative it would not bother me and I would feel like you do. There are many elements to his tweets and otherwise that do NOT give a balanced view of how LFTs COULD be used effectively. He is very quick to make a negative judgment with no reservations or solutions and that kind of personality (like QuickDraw or Merchant) is more close minded than not - and for a member of the science community I feel this is not ideal at all.

Agree the huff element made me raise my eyebrows however looking at the bio of the journalist gave a huge amount of credibility to the article. He has been around a good number of years in mainstream news outlets so clearly has plenty of contacts. Again nothing was denied or corrected with regards to Avacta being at the forefront of getting back to normality ...

I think there is an absolute lack of clarity on what has actually happen and I’m not sure we will ever know. I think Avacta might possibly be irritated by the slow progress this the move to validate in Europe which we know was planned since the end of November (?) ... why on earth with this many infections has it taken this long with PD? I just don’t get that at all.

Having said all that - no one has refuted the Avacta LFT being at the forefront of the government’s plans which was a key message in the article. That seems to me to be what should have been refuted - I.e. the government are assessing a number of tests of which Avacta is one... blah blah blah. So that seems in itself a critical piece of investor information.

Vegas - good on you. That was not a silly question... that was a point that was so pertinent to the whole dilemma of getting the economy going versus stopping the spread. Deeks would probably said he wouldn't be on the airplane - we shouldn't do anything until infection rates are so low... that makes no allowance for protecting the economy and people's livelihoods. There has to be a balance and I think an LFT with a 96/100 performance is a superb compromise. Of course it has to be used appropriately. Of course lab testing will have to continue. What I don't like about Deeks is that he has been thrust into the public arena and has gobbled up publicity and uses it to only slate LFTs rather than encouraging the education on sample methods and making better use of the techonology. Clearly even the Innova LFTs had better performance with professional use - surely that indicates an education / training issue?? I'm just so sick of the lack of ingenuity with government and these public 'professionals'. Time to think outside the box rather than putting fingers in ears and blocking people on Twitter.

I started lost respect for deeks when he was asked on Twitter if he would be happier sitting next to a person on a plane that had had the LFT 60 minutes ago or someone who had been vaccinated 3 months ago. He blocked them. Seriously that was a good and pertinent question. It is going to take vaccinations AND testing to get our lives backs.

Here it is - David Wilson said he didn’t think the new variants would pose an issue but Avacta was working to demonstrate it.

Deeks reminds me of slow draw - I reckon he must be invested in Nova. The amount of fighting on these boards has genuinely shocked me. Why can’t people see that we need all this testing (ALL of it) to get our lives back.

I do know that the department of education has people working on getting LFTs into primary schools.

Interesting CO - however we had some time confirmation that Avacta didn’t think it would perform differently - I can’t recall where I saw that. What is the difference in the variants - is it in the spike protein?

It is just me - but do some of these people on their high horses need to zoom out and get a grip? Q18 really needs to get his head checked - he seems to think he is saving the world from dangerous LFT than the reality of him just trying to protect a single company's share price. It isn't a binary choice between LFTs and PCR. Both have pros and cons. WE NEED BOTH. It really is that simple. It kind of smells of Deets weird world where we don't move an inch from our sofas until 'we are all safe from covid'.

Van takes a sensible approach to the PCR -LFT debate. It isn't a binary choice. Both are needed. QD18 is clearly of a type that doesn't like to be wrong - so they shout and shout to 'vindicate' themselves. Nobody really listens and it totally distracts from useful conversation.
