AI Chatbots Manipulate Users to the Brink

A New York Times investigation reveals how mainstream chatbots like ChatGPT can steer ..... users toward dangerous delusions.

Researchers have found that large language models often replicate toxic or fantastical patterns in their training data. One study found GPT 4o affirmed mystical or delusional prompts 68% of the time. OpenAI says it's working on better safeguards, but critics warn stronger guardrails are needed.

Why it matters: Generative AI increasingly plays therapist, friend, and guru. When the advice goes off the rails, the consequences land squarely in the real world—and humans, not algorithms, pay the price.

I have a terrible feeling that using CHATGP to value a company will the Chartist hokum of our times.............

Like all such techniques it depends on past data and averages. If you're not average for any reason the model will be wrong. Using a metric like "small oilers" is typical - what's small? Does it include companies who have a production history, do they have more than one income stream............. was it founded by Lenigas?? Is it quoted on AIM or LSE ??

A company doesn't have to trade shares to exist - 99% of limited companies aren't listed. If they have cash in the bank they can just keep paying themselves. Once it runs out the company can just go bust. And the shareholders get nothing .

In the case of UKOG they are no doubt scheming to get some new deal (see ANGS and their GoM "takeover") that will allow them to borrow more cash , get the shares relisted and run the gravy train for another couple of years. Unfortunately, it gets harder and harder as the mugs (sorry- PI's) finally wise-up. That other Lenigas vehicle, PPP, has been suspended for almost a year and no sign of any cash injection or re-listing. Eventually they just die quietly.

The interesting question is who will pay for restoring the sites at Broadford Bridge and HH. Luckily they can't come after the shareholders.

Look at Note 22 - Financial Instruments - maturity profile of the Group's Financial Liabilities- which is forward looking.

At year end 2024 they had £ 26 mm of loans and £ 10.9 mm of derivative liabilities outstanding plus trade and lease liabilities according to the accounts

rumour is it was either the most expensive O&G well ever drilled onshore Uk or the second most expensive - took over three time slonger than originally planned.

just who is going to lend someone cash to pay off a debt to someone else they can't pay off right now and have little hope of doing in the future?

And every time people have told you that a default is a default, that they clearly can't meet their obligations and anyone who thinks this is a good thing is about to be scalped.

So why are the shares suspended and the loans having to be rejigged? ANGS them selves clearly state that production shortfalls are the reason for the default. The so-called RTO is some weird financial engineering to get them back on the market to take more skin off the PI's

Enough to pay their salaries but not enough to pay the people who loaned them money.

That has consequences - higher interest rates and a chance of being wiped out.

We'll be lucky if it's only 80% dilution IMHO.

Yes we're generating cash but we're clearly not generating enough to pay the financiers. If the RTO doesn't happen they will just take over the company and the shareholders will be be wiped out. And the scale of refinancing and any dilution is likely to reduce our holding very substantially - . We'll be lucky to retain 20% of the current value IMHO

Not only that - there were persistent stories that parts of the Israeli atomic bomb were tested in a remote part of Argentina on an estancia owned by an Argentinean/Israeli family. Nothing that generated any fallout but the firing & fusing mechanism etc.

It's looking unlikely that they'll be able to push production much above 0.1250 on average a day.

They managed 6 consecutive days in April over 0.1300 and one day a week later. Since then its been in the low-mid 0.1200's

Given their need to pay Trafigura you'd have expected them to try and produce as much as possible - but they couldn't do it and had to suspend the shares.

Past performance would suggest they can keep chugging along for another few months at these rates before the decline sets in again.
