Rockhopper are and were a tiny company - they did remarkably well to get the funding to drill the wells and discover hydrocarbons. But that was it. The oil price went south, they had no other serious income or assets. No -one was going to lend them a $billion ++ to develop Sea Lion - bankers want a track record, certainty. Even Navitas have had to work hard to raise the cash- but they have other fields and they've been able to assemble a good team.
Think of all the other oilers you might have invested in 15 years ago - Desire, Talisman, Premier, Cairn, Ophir, Dana, Sterling, BG, Toreador, Svenska, Addax, Caithness, Northern, GB, Celtique ..............
