Hi bankrupty
you are welcomed and my compliments to your objective and honest initial post.
Indeed we get told a lot of BS some time unintentionally some time with a purpose...
Have to say Mark Mills simple logics to explain the problems with renewables and decarbonization, can not be escaped or denied.
I mean its a paradox to think that our nature is to pollute and destroy, but at the same we are able to restore and revert our actions. This fact is a physical condition of humanity, in the same way that the force of gravity rules the universe.
Who knows maybe one day we will find a risk free infinite form of energy.
Unfortunately the dogma of humanity and pollution, stretches in to many areas, including religion, technology, politics and socioeconomics...….you get an idea of how complex is to find a solution, based on organising, reasoning and logics.
It as been proved many times in experiments, that when an animal species thrive and become too dominant in any environment, it resolves to cannibalism and self destruction to level out and survive.
One may thing well....you are talking about animals not human been, but isn't it just because we consider our self a superior species, that we are in this mess?
Will the human race be able to organise themselves globally in order to maintain the balance, do we need a nuclear war or many environment disasters to level out?
Indeed is also down to perception, point of views and interest, if one can consider this an environment emergency or not.
Recent trends and investment on the renewable space one can't deny...came about also because many politicians around the world, needed to please voters.
I find it difficult to believe that US given the current economic situation in the west, will keep printing $ to sustain the decarbonization theme and also compete with China dominance in this space, .
The West motivations about renewables and decarbonization is an ideological one, the Chinese is an economical one, in mid/long terms there can be only one winner.
CATL has already started to produce sodium-ion batteries, if the decarb and renew themes are to go on, i can see Li been soon replaced by new techs...the west will always be behind the curve . Democracy is too complex and slow moving to be able to compete with authoritarian regimes.
Sorry for my drivels
