It seems some on here - issuing the punchier valuation guesses - have conveniently ignored this. Sure, IMM may not end up having to fund/run any revised trial now. But it massively increases the financial risk for any third party. Thereby reducing any bid value they’re likely to ascribe.

Not sure who you were addressing there? But in my case, it's not that I don't believe a deal's coming. It might be, it might not.

Unlike VikR who seems to regard Tim's every comment as gospel, I remain agnostic here. On the plus side, Tim HAS been more unequivocal than ever about a deal coming this year. On the minus side, unless a deal's already been agreed (unlikely, as why wouldn't it have been RNS'd?), I take the view that nothing's agreed until everything's agreed. And how CAN Tim possibly give such a definite timescale assuming nobody's signed on the bottom line yet?

Seeing as my holding in IMM's a relatively small part of my total wealth, I'm happy to wait and see. And if nothing comes of it, it will at least have provided great entertainment value with OSD's Sunday sermons, Tigtig's regular nudgy nudgys. Not to mention Tim's potential squirming if he's finally unmasked next year & voted out.

A foreign company must issue a TR1 form to a UK company when its holding of that company's voting rights reaches or falls below 3%, and then at every whole percentage point thereafter (4%, 5%, etc.) up to 100%.

Google it if you don't believe me.

Whether foreign or UK-owned, a company can't just accumulate on the sly, then suddenly decide it's probably about time it declared its holding. There are actually laws governing this you know. Muppet.

Which equates to a paltry £9876. I’ve done bigger trades in Opti than that myself.

Again, marginally better than nothing. But 84,000-odd shares really is total peanuts in the scheme of things.

Buybacks always seem to divide opinion.

But if you shell out to reduce the total number of shares in issue, it stands to reason the company’s value will be divided by a smaller number of shares. So all other things being equal (which, of course, they rarely are!), the price per share will rise.

I sold a very small part of the family's holding today at a shade over £11.50. Not because I can't see it going higher, but mostly for tax reasons as we hold a small proportion outside ISAs.

That said, the SP has risen fairly steadily since early April and nothing goes up in a straight line for ever.

I'm increasingly nervous about what's going on in the US with government shutdowns and feel the markets are assuming a benign & rapid resolution.

They may be right, but with Trump you just never know. He may be quite content to let things drag on, unilaterally blaming the Democrats even though it takes two to tango.

And if the stale mate continues for a while, it'll soon start costing the US economy dear. Back in 2019, it's estimated their 35 day shutdown cost $11bn, shaving 0.2% off annual economic growth.

US markets - tech in particular - currently seem to be shrugging off any potential headwinds. Whilst that may last, I suspect it won't forever and SMT's current American weighting is > 40% according to the FT.

Put it this way, whilst still happy to retain the majority of our SMT holdings at current levels, I wouldn't be adding right now. Muffled alarm bells are just beginning to ring in my ears.

Sheffieldowls - I know nothing about Sylvania Platinum I'm afraid, except that their share chart looks great over the past year. I'm not generally into mining or commodity investing, other than Helium Exploration (Hex) where I see good short to medium term growth potential.

I've also clearly called RFX wrong - short term at least. Never mind - too risky for me at these levels. I'm looking more to invest in funds with a decent geographical &/or sector spread now anyway, rather than in too many individual companies.

Crossley - yes - very interesting they've acquired almost 10% of their stated initial 15% target in one hit - apparently at today's share price.

Suggests to me they consider M&G's general trajectory to be northwards. Otherwise, why buy up so much at once?

Unless they felt drip purchasing would gain more investor attention, thereby risking a higher price for each of their subsequent buys?
