In the report Vas kindly posted yesterday, from Mercom - India, it gave a date of September 14th, 2020, for the submission of bid documents. But another report from TND India, also gives the September 14th, 2020 date for the submission of bid documents, but also gives a date of 24th August, 2020, for a pre-bid meeting to take place.

Yes, I saw it earlier this afternoon, but have had other things to do today. Yes it could be an interesting tender opportunity, for an RF solution Company. And more-so, as Adani appeared in the " Customer and Partners " page of the CyanConnode, UK Investors Magazine Webinar Presentation, from 30th June, 2020.

I seem to remember that Adani took over Reliance Mumbai a while ago. And as the report seems to stipulate an " .... RF communications canopy network ..... " specifically, for a potential 700,000 customers, it will be interesting to see who tenders.

...... Q1 FY2021 Earning Conference Call - July 30th, 2020, gives an insight into the solutions provided by the Company for the smart meter deployment, in India.

From the Q & A within the report - Page 9:-

Q - " Sir, as far as my knowledge is concerned, smart meters is based on two kind of technologies - it is RF and GSM based. So which type of product you are manufacturing and in India which type of technology is mostly used in India."

A - " There are three to four types of ways of technologies to communicate - PLC, Proprietary RF, Open RF, etc.. Primarily two technologies are widely used across the global - GSM and RF. And we being such a large country, we will have a market for both. India will see a lot of traction in both the technologies, whether it is GPRS, GSM, put into one category and other category being Radio RF which have different versions. Fortunately, Genus is a one stop shop for any kind of electricity metering and communication. And as on date, Genus has highest installed base for both the technologies in the country, by far."

The report also goes on to mention, also on Page 9 about EESL and the future potential involvement of any Chinese manufacturers in the Indian smart meter program.

On page 10 of the report, it confirms the smart meter production capability at present and what it could gear-up to:-

Q - Okay Sir, assuming that government decides to kind of bar Chinese players and assuming that the SAMARTH scheme is now being implemented going forward over a period of time. I believe Genus is the only one who has demonstrated capability in the recent past by supplying large numbers of meters to EESL. But how does Indian industry cope up with such large demand and how would Genus probably look to further enhance supplies."

A - " As on date, Genus has a comfortable capability of producing 10 million meters annually. It can be easily enhanced to produce 20 million meters in four to six months. So that we have designed ourselves because we are completely in-house manufacturing Company. We are truly " Made in India " so we know our products, we design it ourselves and our enhancing capability is also very huge. The way we have set-up our manufacturing plants in different parts of the country, that gives us a huge advantage. So capacity wise, as a company, we are very much capable of handling this large number given by the government. And in terms of Indian industry also, Indian Metering Industry is fairly good industry. We have some good players. I think we will be able to supply the requirements of the government. "

From the report:-

" Electricity meters are space-constrained, must operate within regulatory power limits and must compete in a competitive, cost-sensitive market. Small, power-efficient hardware is critical to unlocking smart metering and numerous other markets.

" Standards maturity is a key enabler. They have allowed silicon vendors to build multifunction System on Chip ( SoCs ) which integrate IPv6-supporting, secure, sub-GHz, IEEE 802.15.4 radio transceivers with capable embedded ARM processors. Together with production process improvements, integration has produced smaller, lower power divices that weren't possible a year ago."

So I would think that taking into account the miniaturization of the components, that any storage/securely packaged quantities of the nodes, whether it be 10's/20's/50's/100's of thousands, can be stored by any/numerous suppliers, in a secure environment, without taking up to much space, until they are required to be fitted into the smart meter.

I would imagine that the nodes can also be held in a secure environment by CyanConnode, prior to payment, if that is more acceptable to both/all parties.

As I have learnt over the years, my thoughts are of no interest to you. They are just used as a platform for you to latch onto to post an alternative point of view, about CyanConnode or individuals involved within CyanConnode.

When you talk about cost's v revenue, I seem to remember you had been suggesting that there would be a Placing, on occasions, since about March 2019, even though the Company suggested they were working on alternatives to a Placing, which they seem to have achieved. Here we are in August 2020 and we understand that we can generate enough cash that should see us through to at least June 2021.

" Do you really think they are supplying millions of units ...... " If you re-read my post again, on Friday, at 20:40, you will see that I commented that:-

" Genus, L&T and HPL etc., provide non-RF meters as well as RF meters." So until the RF meter market grows, I am assuming, and I do not like to assume to often, that each manufacturer ( Genus, L&T, HPL, are the named ones) are holding a limited amount of stock, of CyanConnode RF modules for use as/when required.

So to answer your question, I do not think, as you suggest, that CyanConnode " ....... are supplying millions of units for manufacturers to supply to market when tech will mostly never be needed." Just enough modules to cope with the anticipated increase in demand.

It's known in manufacturing as " Just in time " manufacturing. Very cost effective if you get the supply chain right.

And getting back to the cash balance of the Company, I might suggest that if CyanConnode had supplied " ..... millions of units to suppliers ...... " the Company would be more financially exposed than it is. So as far as I am concerned, there seems to have been some prudent " house-keeping " carried out over the last 18/24 month's or so.

I will cover EESL under a different heading at another time.

In reply to your 11:13 post today, my " That is as I/we understand it. That CyanConnode are enabled in all three electric meter manufacturers meters," was in the first part of my 10:34 post today, which was in reply to tonyj's post at 09:10, which did not mention anything about " 3 million meters " as did your post's at 10:46 and 11:13 today.

Tonyj and myself were discussing that CyanConnode have told share-holders that the Omnimesh solution is embedded in the 3 Indian manufactures, Genus Power, Larsen and Toubro and HPL. Not about the potential 3 million meter tender, as you suggest.

I agree with tonyj's post at 17:03. Specifically about the meters being designed to accept Omnimesh as an " ....... internal add-on ...... " if required.

Genus, L&T and HPL, etc., provide non-RF meters as well as RF meters. They will not want to manufacture/have manufactured 2 designs/various designs of meter boxes. I would think it will be a pre-determined/designed standard size casing, that accepts the components that are required to do the job that each client wants. So not all meters for these particular 3 manufactures will have the Omnimesh solution in them. But I agree that there could/will be an aperture to accept one, when and if required.

The standardization is very cost effective.

When you manufacture a car, as an example, you have a standard chassis, which will have standard components fitted. If you want a higher specification new car, you chose a higher specification trim. But you don't necessarily have to change the chassis. There is not so much choice for a smart meter, but the principle is the same.

If you read my post from 10:34, you will see that I noted:- " But it will depend on any RF contribution to the project, that will determine CyanConnodes overall interest."

There will hopefully be an RF contribution, which I do not think there was in the original tender. But the qualifications for tender involvement have changed recently. We have yet to find out just how much.

So we will have to wait and see where this development and new protocols takes us, as a Company and as share-holders.

But it also says in the report:-

" ...... Indias new public procurement rule-book for compulsory purchase preference to local suppliers, the firms eligible to participate in the snap bid called by EESL for supplying 3 million meters, include Genus Power Infrastructure Ltd., Larsen and Toubro and HPL Electric and Power Ltd."

There may also be " ...... other local suppliers ....... " that qualify, other than the 3 mentioned, but are not readily globally recognized.

No, sorry Vas, I do not know who provided the RF nodes for the initial Kathmandu Valley project. But I may have posted this report previously, which was published during September 2017, which also mentions the possible provision of GPRS/GSM.

But the supplier of RF/GPRS/or other, may not be revealed until the project/contract is 100% sealed. This is not unusual.

What is also interesting is that when the initial project was floated, the winning Bidder - " In case the RF communication technology is not feasible at the specific consumer/metering location, the bidder shall provide the GPRS/GSM based network connectivity for the metering point."

I would have thought that would be an added expense to provide, if not already in place.

But you can see from the September 2017 date on the report I have posted, how long these projects can take to implement, from aspiration to completion.

Thank you for reports you posted, at 18:53 on Sunday and thanks for the reminder on the Beijing Instruments -CyanConnode Newsletter.

I posted the " Smart Metering Road Map For Nepal " towards the beginning of July 2020, when we were discussing Nepal previously, when they obtained a $200 million loan from the ADB. Within the " Road Map," published December 2018, there is a section on page 14 - 6.7 - " Smart Metering Roll-out Plan " that you may find of interest.

It mentions a roll-out program between 2020 and 2025, for smart metering and also mentions the Kathmandu Valley. So they may well be sticking to schedule.

But Nepal seems an interesting area for development over the next few years, for smart meters. Depending of course, on the delivery solution required.
