RE: more problems for EESL21 Aug 2020 13:42
Good afternoon Vas and all,
Thank you for the latest update concerning this project. It is appreciated.
As it says in the report that you posted, this may only be a temporary halt in the program.
From the report:-
" In a letter addressed to EESL, chief executive vice chairman, Saurabh Kumar, the managing director of UPPCL, M Devraj, has directed that installations of 40 lakh meters that was being carried out by EESL, be put on hold for the next fortnight."
So we are talking about an overall, proposed very large number ( 4,000,000 ) of meters to be installed here.
So we will have to see what decisions are made for the project, going forward. I suspect there is a lot to discuss.
As this project will in part, probably be affected by any prior Chinese involvement, this was covered ( But not directly in connection with, at the time ) in a section of the Genus Power Q1 FY 2021 Earnings Conference Call - July 30th, 2020, I posted on 17th August, 2020.
From the report, page 9:-
Q - " What is the price difference from your meters and that of Chinese suppliers? And what is the market share of the China supplied meters?"
A - " Except EESL global tenders, nowhere else Chinese players could enter India and even in that, they are facing huge problems. They have got orders from last 18 months and not even 10,000 meters had been supplied. With the current scenario, I further see this becoming more and more difficult for Chinese companies. When it comes to cost competency, on an apple to apple comparison, India is in the best position to compete with anybody in the world."
It is unclear whether the outage was caused by a system/programming failure, or whether it is a meter failure. But as I seem to remember that it was the administrators for the project that were relieved of their position, we will have to wait and see what the findings are of the discussions that are being progressed, over the next fortnight.
But thank you for the update, Vas.
