BS, RR, I've read different articles, one early on saying countries with high TB jab populations seem to have lower levels. More recently there was a study indicating that the MMR (mumps) portion may help ensure to reduce the severity of covid 19 the symptoms.

Re the flu jab, RR I recall reading the opposite - do you have a link to that study? That said at least two of the most vulnerable I know were told there weren't any flu shots available. Here is one ref I found this morning:

The fact that the AZ 1/2 level 1st dose provided a higher efficacy level indicates to me that we need to test everything.

BS, thank you for that informed response. I think it is useful that AZ are rerunning the CT and hope to learn more. Perhaps the data will also help align other issues such as the severity of symptoms for those who received the MMR and TB vaccines, etc.

I'm very keen to understand this issue in depth. I'm also keen to understand how to stop spreading issues from carriers (who I think may be considered part of the asymptomatic group).

My take in the spring was that many firms would go down the more frequent shot route. I know there are some who are working on a vaccine for all covids.

Side point Lest we forget - many species may also require the jab. I've been wondering about those which are in the chains for human contact, and possibly those which are consumed by humans (where that is possible).

My input is that that knowing buy-in into Redmile's Investment Fund is a minimum of $5Million.... Therefore, I think they would want to get a 10X or more return. They may even think this is a 20-100x+ bagger IDK. If I knew their thinking then I wouldn't be able to post such speculation. [You can see why I'm in the glee club.]

HP, There is a world of difference between a hedge fund and an investment fund in my humble view.

I think you have an erroneous view of one, who considered themselves to be almost a white knight in the 2019 video on their investment.

As for the other, their initial price point to buy in is £5m. I'm happy that I'm in one of the firms they will believe will add supernormal value to the world - and I found it before they did.

Hope that this helps provide an alternative viewpoint. Scancell have the cash to see them through a few years and will, no doubt, attract other investors when their data is published.

HS, I thought Scancell would have been front and centre in the business case Bingham presented to establish the UK as a COE for the discovery and manufacture of vaccines.

However, when I looked at the "firms" and Unis in the list presented at a dinner, very few were actually in the UK. So all that dosh going to other countries to fund research.

Like others, I see the longer term potential. I don't think Redmile will want to exit at a loss, so I'm hopeful that the near term potential will also be higher.

This is good news for many, including a couple of family / friends. Perhaps the market is wider (eg other underlying conditions which haven't been highlighted). Re the timeline to approval: I read early on from very geographically different sources, that some labs were rolling out tech and adopting agile techniques to streamline the gathering of data (eg wearables for those enrolled), and automated reporting at the back end to help with regulatory requirements.

However, I think it was more to do with establishing a world wide benchmark for efficacy and regulatory requirements which has made the key difference. To date, differences helped protect in-country players. Perhaps the first to market winner approach helped them sacrifice those "walls". [Yes, I think the FDA set the lowest bar outside possibly Russia. I find it strange that I haven't seen much about the Russian vaccine's success]

SH3, my view is not shared by all my family. 1 doesn't think it is any worse than a bad flu, and 4 of my extended family need to shelter far more than I do.

With the rain pelting down now, I doubt the roads will be open tomorrow either. The birds are making short work of the fat balls I've been putting out. Time for a cuppa I think.

SH3, My personal view is that I'm happy taking the vaccine, but I would prefer to wait for a 2nd Gen as I'm not a front line worker and I can limit my exposure substantial more than most (particularly as the road is out still).

As mentioned before, even if you have had the vaccine, or have immunity from contagion, you can still spread the virus.

My understanding is that a constant exposure to the virus will help keep antibodies active. So I'm not surprised that front line staff have longer immunity than recorded elsewhere. Will they be protected against any of the other strains and mutations?

Last question is about spreading. Everyone is a potential spreader, whether or not they have antibodies. Even post a vaccine, people can spread the virus. How do we prepare for that?

I think it is always worth understanding what is driving the numbers. With two dilutions events (did I say that right? IDK), it may be time to recalculate the charts on a like for like basis.
