If RDS wanted to improve their green credentials, then continuing to roll out hydrogen refuelling on their forecourts in the UK would help.

Estimates that 60 hydrogen stations nationally would could cover 80% of local population.. and only cost £60m to provide an impetus.

Wiltshire dont seem to mind companies plastering (concreting?) their green fields with solar panels and installing (arguably dangerous) lithium ion battery systems. Insistence on VR flow batteries might mitigate such lousy decisions, but do councils insist on large-scale solar panels installed on all new builds either... no.

The other benefit of the blend is that gas separation can occur and be converted to electricity using fuel cells instead of emitting gas turbines as now. The greater efficiency of the current gas grid as an energy vector versus the electricity grid allows this. What remains to be seen is how punitive the carbon tax accelerator will be to encourage the switch to green. Roll on COP26!

Great to have the analysis, but when they fail to factor in the full supply chain their conclusions contain huge biases. Battery tech is evolving but is still heavily reliant on mining and costly recycling.

Such conclusions seriously risk 'throwing the baby out with the bath water'. Something hit hydrogen stocks badly yesterday!

When you need energy in one place a cable makes sense, but not so for mobility. National Grid are "hedging" cables and gas pipelines to ensure adequate redundant power supply across the UK.

All these rather polarized debates risk losing sight of the need to RAPIDLY de-carbonize to avert climate change.

Energy hub plans include CCS initially to assist in up-scaling Hydrogen but long term greener H2 via electrolysis will dominate. Yes it buys time for those industries to complete their energy transition too, but isn't that important for the financial and pensions system which relies so heavily on those industries remaining profitable? CCS should be fully funded by the fossil fuel industry though, given the technology chiefly exists for enhanced oil/gas recovery.

Funding for Ilika's Goliath R&D has ended now (mid 2021) according to https://www.ilika.com/battery-innovation/goliath. A possible peak production of 10kWh/week doesn't sound much, given that one vehicle charge requires 59.8kWh on average according to https://ev-database.org/cheatsheet/useable-battery-capacity-electric-car.
