RE: Hydrogen Science Coalition - Friend or Foe?12 Oct 2022 16:14
H2sciencecoalition's message was topical before COP26 during the last H2 investment peak. Has it muddied the waters for politicians and major investors, just when H2 and energy storage needed to be increased globally? If more had been done sooner, we would have been better prepared for this post covid/Russian energy crisis.
The podcast focuses on battery vs HFCV, despite HFCV being huge improvement on ICE vehicle efficiency, and is less demanding on the known limits to lithium battery growth. Why not mention the 'new Pi' = 3.3 efficiency factor, lots and lots of times, a sound-bite to satisfy your research sponsors..
As for catenary road charging, when H2 is being promoted for rail instead of high maintenance overhead electrification. Smaller (lighter) batteries are suggested, with more frequent recharging from catenaries above short sections of road. 10km of catenary accessed at 80km/h say: What charge rate is required to deliver a useful quantity in 7.5 minutes? There could be 50 such vehicles on the road, 200m apart. How many GWs to sustain that usefully?
To be fair the podcast ends, unsure how it will all pan out. As said, they are anti Blue H2 (CCUS) too.
By the way, another cool example of CCUS this week: Wintershall-DEA cleared to inject
5Mt CO2/year at Luna Norway. Global CO2 emissions now stand at 34Gt/year. A drop in the proverbial ocean.
Looking forward to this:
