Marstons has 2 strong groups, and both have continued their high spending habits.
Middle-Class and Retired People = lots of expendable cash and no debt as mortgage paid ect...
You can see it for yourselves, Marston has retained a relatively high level of customers, as their core audience have been less affected by the cost of living.
Due to international and domestic travel still being tricky, this has seen people spending more money in their local Marstons rather than day trips to London (knife crime keeping reasonable people out of the city), or aboard.
We can see this trend in luxury fashion, where the cheap brands are slowing down, with the middle to premium brands still making good revenue.

Frankie and Bennies is not really comparable to Marstons, who is going to Frankie and Bennies for the ambience and to spend an evening with friends?
Also Frankie and Bennies are part of the Restaurant Group, which overall is consolidating their locations.
Good thing for Marstons is that their "wet trade" aka alcohol is now more profitable due to the carlsberg Marstons partnership.

getting closer to the FY2023 report period, and going by trend debt should be almost clear, and cash generative business.
looking at trends for alcohol consumption C&c Grp (CCR) are in the perfect position of having products that are cost effective but still have a mid-premium value, so all the festival and pub goers this spring / summer will be buy lots.
expensive craft IPA etc... will be replaced by more affordable beverages that still have a good quality associated.

Im in this and CCR, expect both to start rocketing up with the summer coming.

@FD20, i think you are confused about C&C.

It looks like C&C will be debt free soon.
They managed to get the debt from 362.3m down to 191.3m in a year, from 2021 to 2022
Looks like they will have cleared alot of debt during 2022.

Hi FD20, hopefully Marstons dividend will start again so, the BoD had indicated that is what they want, the debt was holding them back, but looks like they have gotten that under control.
check out C&c Grp (CCR), they are looking good, should have debt almost paid off and can expect them to start dividend again soon too, tons of upside in that share.

now heading into Summer expect this share to rally upwards fast.
And expect funds to be buying and holding ready for the dividend payments to become live again.

based on those projections they could have debt down to the 20m zone.
They would be a cash generating business, with minimum overheads due to their full channel integrated sales model.
As such, they can expand dynamically with the market, reducing costs and having product in hand.
They should have they trade up out in a few days, and based on the Xmas one it should be good.
Lots of students in the UK drinking would help to balance the Jan/Feb period to give a great start to 2023, and we have the Spring/Summer natural rise to come.

considering the concerns around costs, its good that Carlsberg/Marstons are consolidating their estate to maximise revenue and profits.
the sale of the brewery and the sales of some of the Marstons pubs will give some extra cash while the markets are still low.
overall very happy with this as a investment, solid business, limited competition, tangible goods.
Tech and Energy profits will be pulled and directed into entertainment ready for the rise back by funds.
