I accept that it was probably cost based, but given the revenue that has been foregone I find myself questioning if it was wise. Its not like we are in theory short of oil so need to preserve the life of the well, and could (hopefully) have brought forward the further de risking of Lancaster by 3 months. The European yards must have been a tad pricey, given that by my rough calculation we have lost £50m+ free cash even at the $60/bbl that I assume was current when the decision was made. In practice that figure is maybe £70m (pure guess).
Whatever, its done now, move on!

The WOS infrastructure has been in place, complete, for a few weeks.
Why did HUR opt to take the AM to Dubai for refurbishment rather than a European yard? I would have thought yards exist with the expertise given the importance of the North Sea over several decades.
I would assume the answer is cost (possibly also of what was immediate available), but surely we could have been pumping oil 3 months+ earlier generating free cash of c$50 - and that was at $60/ bbl, so more at the current POG despite the recent dip. Plus the AM would have been attempting to hook up into the infrastructure in the benign autumn months rather than the more uncertain winter months that are being faced. Anybody know?

Nice to read your enthusiasm for AAU. As is obvious from my frequent ramblings I share that enthusiasm, although in a more conservative way than some. Not only am I not counting the chickens here, but I'm not going to get too hot under the collar until we prove to have some eggs. Yes there are prospects near Hot Maden, yes there is some evidence of similar mineralisation. But until it is proven we have no idea whether anything on that scale will be found. I invest more on certainty, having had my wallet emptied on several occasions before, especially on AIM. Very happy indeed with the continued success of Red Rabbit, though in fairness shareholders are unlikely to see a huge return from that because revenue seems largely earmarked to fund exploration in the North East.
I have what I consider a relatively substantial investment here (relative to my wealth and to the MC of the company) with number of shares too far into 7 figures for comfort. I keep buying into dips, a habit I am determined to stop as I now hold 3 times the limit I originally set myself (I am weak willed!). No more, I have to keep in mind there may be a discounted cash call inviting existing shareholder participation!

All joking apart (and I do enjoy a giggle), I am quite a serious person and do have confidence here. Bought a few more today. PROVIDED the old tub doesn't suffer any hiccups (or POO crashes) on the way north I do expect a strengthening of the SP as WOS hoves into sight.
I'm not sure what the current US/ Russia/ Saudi non-love triangle holds for oil? Clearly the latter 2 can to an extent dictate to The Donald by threatening to withhold production as Iran sanctions bite. Punishment of the Saudis over Turkey in particular seem a non starter ahead of the November US elections. So I would have expected a strengthening of oil price for political reasons. Buts its not. Kind of proves why I would probably ne better with nothing in the market. May be better to stuff it under my bed.

I dive and before each time you dive in this country you normally look up tide tables. So imagine the confusion of UK divers in the Red Sea when the dive guides say 'if the current is going this way we will do this dive otherwise we will do this one'. Blank looks from our divers. 'Don't you know which way the current runs?'. 'No, its pretty unpredictable in the Red Sea'.

Out of interest are the speeds quoted 'speed over ground' or 'speed through the water'? Does anyone know?
