Disappointing nos from IBM & Honeywell pulled the Dow lower on a mixed to better mrkt day. Of the top 30 stocks 19 fell led by the aforementioned and Verizon. Intel, McD & GS led the risers. Most investors and traders are wary of opening bets in the closest election of all time.

Nevertheless the mrkt was cheered by strong nos from electric car giant Tesla. The company is forecasting bullish sales growth nos of 10%-20% for next year. Tesla stock gained $43 to $257 boosting its mrkt cap by c.$140bn to $832bn becoming the 10th most valuable global company. In earnings terms Tesla ($7•9bn) ranks 168th on the global most profitable list.

US stocks continue to be held in check by upcoming political events and election uncertainties as Trump and Harris flip flop for electors attention. Wall St is betting on a Trump win and a French trader has built a massive pro Trump position of $28bn on the political betting market Polymarket. Latest odds Trump 33/50, Harris 6/4.

For your info, trade vols so far this week (87,300) of which 31,000 have been sells. Just saying like.....

On Wall St stocks came under pressure from the bell and saw further downside over the trading day, the 3 major averages extending their losing streak to 3 days. Of the Dow's top 30 only 4 stocks gained, Verizon, Walmart, J&J and IBM.

Rate sensitive mega caps fell dragging on the tech heavy NSDQ. Of the 11 sub sectors only Utilities and Real Estate rose. Notable casualty was McDonald's after an e.coli infection linked to its 'Q Pounder' killed one and sickened many. Big Mac stock tumbled $16 to $298 the bigest loser on the day of the Top 30.

Boeing whose latest pay offer was rejected by the workforce, 64% voted against the pay deal. The first strike 95% rejected Boeings deal. Now more than 30,000 workers are out of a job. The company posted a well trailed 3Q loss of $6bn, shares off $3 to $158. Tesla ($239) put on $26 after hours as the company handilly beat profit margin estimates and demand for their electric cars exceeded most forecasts.

Morning all.

A positive start to the 3Q earnings season and upbeat economic data has propelled the markets higher these past few weeks as the 3 major indexes logged a 6th consecutive wk of gains on Friday, their best winning streak this year. However a jump in T/bill yields added pressure as the yield on the 10 yr rose as high as 4•17% a 12 week high and could spoil Gold's record run.

Yet optimism around earnings persisted ahead of the 114 S&P companies scheduled to report results this week which inc Tesla, Coca Cola and Texas Instruments. Of those to have reported nos so far, 83% have topped Wall's earnings estimates.

Spirit Airlines ($2•25) surged 33% after reaching an agreement with its debit card processor to extend debt refinancing by 2 months and Humana ($260) added 2% when t/o talks resumed with Cigna ($320) the health insurer. Of the "Mag 7" group most fell back on profit taking and Dow futures calling the mrkt lower.

However Nvidia ($144) rose nearly 2% now just $70m behind Apple ($3•595tn) as the most valuable global company by mrkt value. Apple makes twice as much profit $122bn to Nvidia's $61bn and ranks 2nd to Saudi Aramco ($228bn) as the most profitable company on earth.

Boeing ($160) put on 5% after the workforce agreed to a vote on ending the 5wk old strike. In further good news Emirates cargo arm ordered 5 new Boeing 777F 'freighters' to add to its fleet of 11 as demand is booming. Emirates will also assess the Airbus A350 version as an additional option. Boeing's Commercial Market Outlook forecasts that an additional 2845 freighters will enter service over the next 20 years to support growing global trade.

Morning all.

A quiet start to trading across Asia this morning after China's People's Bank slashed their 1 and 5 year loan rates to 3•10% and 3•60% respectively in an effort to encourage households and companies to borrow money. Widely expected Shanghai's main index is up 36 continuing its 10 day winning streak of more than 27%. While over in HK the Hang Seng is down 130 on profit taking after the strong run these last 3 weeks. In Tokyo the Nikkei is ahead 115 moving above the 30,900 level. Gains in motors and tech are offset by losses in Banks.

Down under Sydney's ASX200 is up 61 near the close led by rises in gold miners and techs.

The mrkt at 8344 trades near record highs.

Grabbing all the Sydney front pages WiseTech Global ($106) Australia's largest listed tech firm tumbled 13% after its board initiated a review of allegations against founder and CEO Richard White by a sexual partner which ended up him paying her millions of dollars to settle the matter. White has recently sold another $46•1m worth of shares in the company.

White had approached numerous female executives through texts and social media messages of offers of support that shifted into crude and suggestive language.

White and WiseTech Global could not be reached for comment.

Yea pretty sure investors are locking in gains but if you have them in a share isa no need to worry unless Rachel Thieves comes looking to rob you which she has surely considered.

To date no cap gains or income tax will be due on any gains made. But how long do you believe that will last if the economy doesn't grow quick enough to get her out of this self inflicted hole and overseas investors look elsewhere?

Thanx rugs I do check MS and agree they are usually correct or at least agree with LSE but they are not always 100% accurate in their daily volume

totals.

Unless the trade data I post does not agree with the LSE nos I will append a note as I know a few investors like to see the weekly nos for a direction of investor sentiment into MSi.

While vols of MSi are low its easy enough to track but I certainly won't be doing it if we ever reach hundreds of daily trades which I know is very unlikely.

Yesterday's total volume discrepancy between lse and the London Stock Exchange data was 3457 shares (unknown whether buys or sells).

I guess a 6% diff is nether here or there wish it was like that when I was sitting my Common Entrance exams!

Despite a flat trading day on the Street the Dow managed another record close putting on 161 to 43,239 around 15% up this year. Of the top 30 stocks 13 fell led by UH, Home Depot and Coca Cola. Topping the big board Travellers and Chevron.

Techs advanced on back of Taiwan Semi Conductor beating earnings estimates and forecasting a jump in 4Q revs helping ease fears of softening demand in the sector following ASMLs results yesterday. TSMC is the 8th largest global company measured by mrkt cap ($1•067tn) just ahead of Berkshire Hathaway.

The ECB cut rates by 25bp to 3•25% it's 3rd cut this year as inflation nos are on the way down but offered scant clues regarding their next move. The ECBs lowest int rate ever was 0•00% in March 2016 and has averaged 1•85% from '98 to '24 hitting an all-time high of 4•75% in Oct 2000.

A stronger than expected set of retail sales figs and jobless data (241,000 v 258,000) that were below economists estimates helped boost confidence in the state of the economy boosting the Feds preferred path to cutting rates at a slower pace than Main St needs. Regional Banks were ahead of the pack in the wake of upbeat nos from M&T Bank and KeyCorp as int rate monies boosted their balances.

The USD touched an 11 week high and crude edged better on ME woes easing and falling US inventories. Gold prices hit a historic record high of $2707 on firming expectations for additional rate cuts, safe haven demand and mounting uncertainties surrounding the Nov election. Spot Gold hit $2698 as Dec Comex futures jumped to $2713.

Well you tried Roger not the answer I hoped for! I don't think any of us expect or want a running commentary. A simple yes/no on did we win a new order? Oh well not to worry the market have methods to get what they want especially if they think their been bowled a wrong'un.

Cheers rugs didn't know that mind you those that read my posts know trading vols and bargains are indicative only, though I usually check with the other LSE to see if they match.

The Dow posted a third record closing high in 4 sessions and the Russell 2000 hit its highest mark since Nov 2021.

A whisker away from another record the 500 fell just short at (5842). Seems many investors are rotating out of big tech into financials as optimism around Ai has been priced into tech companies making investors nervous about 'toppy' valuations. The chasm between Wall & Main ever more apparent.

Banks continued to report record 3Q nos as Morgan Stanley ($120) became the latest to report better profits following a sharp increase in investment banking revenues.

Larger regional banks were also higher pushing the broader banks index up 1•2%.

Not all stocks rose yesterday, Apple ($231)dropped $2 taking Google, Meta & Msoft down with them on profit taking. Nvidia ($136) bucked the trend gaining 3% recouping losses from the previous day as one Wall St analyst reckons the stock is worth $165.

The sensitive Transport index gained 2% lifted by United Airlines ($72) best one day gain in 6 months and a ytd high helped by a 13% decline in fuel costs. United also announced a $1•5bn share buyback. Other airlines Delta ($56) and American ($13) saw buyers adding $4 and $1 both to ytd highs.

Morning all.

At the half way stage MSi fell 10 on the day to 1000/1020 on 34,500 shares traded, buys outpacing sells by 23,000 to 11,500 on 45 bargains dealt.

Vols and deals well below last year's despite the ftse and all share indexes posting near record highs. Aim as you might expect is down 4% so far this year and likely heading for an overall loss on the year.

All part of being lumbered in an index most investors wont touch with a barge poll. Evening all.

Wall St was dominated by oil prices sliding to a 2 week low after Benjamin Netanyahu told Biden Israel would not strike Iranian oil installations. Currently Brent trades at $74 a barrel with energy stocks suffering the steepest % drops. Additionally OPEC & the IEA lowered their global oil demand forecasts due to flagging growth in China. The Shanghai Composite index of 2268 listed companies is up 8% to date.

US stocks ended down on Tuesday due to selling in Dutch chipmaker ASML (Europe's largest tech company) off $124 to $668 on disappointing sales forecasts and Nvidia tanking $6 to $132. Other techs fell in sympathy taking the Nsdq down 279.

On the Dow 14 out of the Top 30 stocks fell led by losses in Intel, UH & Chevron. Gainers included Boeing, Walmart and

Merck. On the S&P which had earlier posted it's 46th all time high slipped back 45 points as the mrkt waits the ECB rate decision later this week, (expected to cut by 25bp).

Banks had a good day as Citi, BOA, GS and Schwab all posted better than expected 3Q nos while J&J and UH results underwhelmed. UH in particular had a bad day the stock falling $49 to $556.

Dunno what's up with LSE posting my daily report is becoming very hit and miss as per below. Extremely annoying!

The Dow closed above 43,000 for the first time posting a record high close along with the 500 up 45 to 5860. Big tech was the main driver as Nvidia powered to another closing high ($138), Arm gaining 7% and Google, Msoft and Tesla all ending better on the day.

However rises were kept in check by losses in Boeing ($149) which is in a desperate effort to stem the financial bleeding due to the strike, job cut plans and plane delays. There's only one company on the big board with a worse batting average than Boeing and that's Intel ($23) off 51% this year.

Forty one S&P companies will report this week helping investors assess the state of the US economy which given the stretched valuations of the S&P above the long'term earnings ratio of 16x is an accident waiting to happen.

Companies may struggle to satisfy investors at 22x current earnings on the S&P.

Big banks may provide some relief. Wells Fargo & JPMC already passing the first earnings test will be followed by 3Q nos today from GS, Citi and BOA with Morgan Stanley tomorrow. Year on year Wall expects earnings growth to be c.5% this year.

Trading was somewhat subdued due to the bond mrkt being closed for a federal holiday with just 9•55bn shares changing hands on US exchanges well below the 12bn 20 day daily average.

anyways we wouldn't be here if we didn't know the score. i expect the shares to creep higher as the interims approach which might kick start a much bigger advance to the end year nos if some new contract support is forthcoming and let's face it as a micro cap we are hugely reliant on order flows.
