Investors buying MSi managed to send the shares down to 960 yesterday. I doubt they were much pleased about that. The shares are long overdue a re-rate struggle around the 950-1000 level. Unfortunately those in that category are often ignored and wither through lack of interest.

Last eps were reported as 71p giving a p/e of c.14x earnings. So unless you believe that's a fair rating now is your chance to think again. Simply Wall St Broker is a big fan of MSi and thinks the shares are 100% undervalued. OK they talk their own book, one I'm happy to read!

For a company with a healthy balance sheet, lots of cash, no debt and paying dividends the shares look cheap on a 2 year view. No use in comparing them to US defence stocks as we're never going to trade at 30x+ earnings, part of the malaise of the UK mrkt and in particular Aim counters which can be difficult to value due to irregular news flows and lack of profits.

Mind you we do ourselves no favours falling between 3 main stools of defence, petrol stations and forgings when trying to attract investors. I doubt becoming a mini conglomerate was ever intentioned even with one jewel in the crown.

I've never understood why we have never moved off the Aim market. Less regulation and scrutiny hardly seems a compelling enough reason if investors suffer the drawbacks of being associated with the n'eer-do-wells on Aim.

So the board are more than happy to remain in the knowledge that many iis cannot invest in Aim companies even if they wanted. That limits our investor base. Perhaps the next profile of management will take a different view and broaden their outlook.

Morning all.

Mrkts across Asia are all trading better this morning following stronger than expected US jobs growth. The ongoing ME crisis continues to dampen sentiment as investors nervously await Israel's threatened crushing response to the rocket attack last week.

However in HK and Shanghai mrkts have been storming ahead. Since early Sept the Hang Seng has risen (33%) to become the leading performer in Asia an astonishing turnaround since the 16,676 low of early August. Not to be outdone Shanghai is up 12% this year racing into 3rd place behind Tokyo in the best of's league table. Both mrkts boosted by the Govts avowed intent to boost the property sectors by inducements.

In Tokyo the 225 is trading strongly and in morning trade is up 815 points moving above the 39,200 level and not far short of the all time high of 42,427. Gains are seen across the mrkt with rises in Autos, and Banks to the fore though exporters are seeing sellers. Near the close the 225 is up 873 points at 39,509.

In Pacifica Sydney closed slightly better, up 60 points at 8209. The ASX200 hit an all-time high of 8286 recently and some local brokers see an 8500 year close for the ASX200. The regions smaller exchanges of KL, Singapore, Jakarta and New Zealand are flat.

Morning all.

Shares (990) fell 10 on a very quiet weeks trading. The hoped for increase in volumes expected at this time of the year hasn't materialised. That could be down to nervousness over the ME war, continuing Ukraine woes and the Labour Govt talking down the UK which hasn't helped overseas investors thinking of investing in this country.

Ed Milliplank pledges £22bn to capture greenhouse gases from polluting plants and store them underground.....

Looks like we are going to be on the hook for lots else besides CCUS by the time these crackpots have finished wrecking the economy.

Taking money off old age pensioners unable to heat their homes this winter is just the start of this Labour Govt not working for the British people.

US stocks ended the session lower across the board ahead of the payrolls report out today. Economists polled by Reuters expect 140,000 additions with the jobless rate steady at 4•2%. Traders now forecast a 35% chance of a 50bp cut at the next Fed meet, down from a 50% chance a week ago.

On stocks energy and oils led the mrkt as crude prices rose on ME worries, potentially on track for their bigest % gain in 2 years. Iran oil exports account for c.4% of the world's supply, mostly bought by China due to global sanctions. The Dow lost nearly 200 on the day with only 5 of the 30 gaining (Chevron, IBM & UH) Boeing, Amazon and Merck led the losers board.

Nvidia helped cushion the losses gaining 3% to $123 nearing its record high as demand for it's Blackwell chips are "insane" according to CEO Jensen Huang.

The Union representing Dock workers agreed to suspend its 3 days old strike until 15/1/25 while negotiations cont having reached a tentative agreement on their wage demands.

The 3 major US indexes closed moderately higher in thin trading awaiting Israel's response to Iran's 200 missile attack on Tuesday. While Netanyahu considers the 'Samson' retaliatory option as opposed to striking Irans oil installations, Biden has urged him to respond proportionally by foregoing the nuclear route.

On Wall news that US firms added 143,000 (99,000) new jobs in the private sector a good deal more than forecast, thanks in the main to the manufacturing sector adding staff for the first time since April had no effect on mrkts preoccupied with the ME crisis.

The Dow gained 40 points as 16 of the 30 constituents fell on the day led down by Intel, Merck and Nike. Going up United Health, Salesforce & Amex. Nvidia ($121) rose 1•6% helping to lift the tech index but Tesla ($248) fell 4% after the electric vehicle maker reported 3Q deliveries below estimates. JPMC ($207) and other banks will kick off the 3Q earnings season on Oct 11. Vols on US exchanges were a below average 11•18bn traded.

Meanwhile the Dock Strike at 14 major ports, the first one in 50 years entered its 2nd day and is said to be costing the economy $5bn a day as 45,000 dockhands go on indefinite strike. As the impact of the stoppage spreads, 100,000 workers could be laid off. Biden has the power to suspend the strike for 80 days while negotiations take place but is not planning to act.

Morning all.

Following broadly negative cues from Wall St overnight traders are concerned about escalating tensions in the ME after Iran launched nearly 200 missiles into Israel, aiming to avenge the killing of Hassan Nasrallah and other senior members of Hezhbolla.

Israel have sworn to retaliate for this unprovoked attack which caused little damage as many were shot down by IDF and US forces or fell in open areas. A proportional response from Israel is unlikely and might lead them to use the 'Samson' option of wiping out Iran's nuclear capability.

US mrkts remained firmly negative throughout the day led down by the tech sector as the Nsdq tumbled 279 but came off days lows by the close. Shares in energy, oils and defense gained with the aerospace defense index climbing to a record high.

It was not all doom and gloom as US job openings rebounded in August. However dampening sentiment was news of a port strike on the East Coast halting the flow of c.50% of the nations shipping.

Vols on US exchanges were above average 13•16bn traded.

Wall St edged higher on good volume taking the Dow and 500 to new record high closes after comments by Fed Chair Powell suggested the Central Bank will continue to lower int rates but stressed the downward path for rates is not on a preset course.

Morning all.

Steep losses in Japan are offset by strong gains in Hong Kong and Shanghai this morning. The Nikkei slumped on news of Shigeru Ishiba the former Defence Minister being chosen by the ruling Liberal Democrats as PM elect who favours a form of "new capitalism." Ishiba is due to succeed Fumio Kishida who resigned as his popularity sank.

Calling for a more equal distribution of wealth Ishiba intends to raise the minimum wage, allow corporate taxes to rise and increase taxes on financial assets, not what markets wanted to hear. At the mid session break the Nikkei was down nearly 6%. Heading to the close the 225 is still down 2000 points near the days low as the Yen strengthens v the USD hurting exporters like Honda and Toyota.

In China mrkts continue to rise on the Chinese Govt's additional stimulus packages to get people spending and the property mrkt moving again. Both Shanghai and Hong Kong have risen substantially in the last 4 sessions, the Hang Seng up 12% and Shanghai's Shcomp up 13% while Taiwans Taiex ended a 6 day winning streak of 1200 points by falling 427.

It's a mixed picture across the Pacificas with no discernable direction. Sydney is up 42 hitting all-time highs boosted by gains in energy and miners. Jakarta is off 95 while KL and Singapore both weak of late are lower as forecasters say there is little to move mrkts in the short term, despite Palm oil prices gaining 13% this month as Indonesia moves to a 40% bio diesel blend rate.

Less than 40,000 traded on 70 trades could be investors are extremely wary of rumours Reeves will be clobbering equities in the up coming Budget. Makes no sense to me when she has avowed to be a pro business Chancellor.

Whatever no'one should trust a Labour politician in need of money however many spurious black holes supposedly exist. When easy targets like old age pensioners are sitting ducks to be milked for the odd billion pounds who knows where she will stop. Trust me there's worse to come.

Morning all.

Could well be despite how much Reeves Labour party profess to be the party of business very few believe anything she says. So expect the worse when it comes to taxation and Aim mrkts. Not to mention she may well have misled Parliament over this £22bn Black hole.

Little doubt in my mind that the economy cannot grow under her stewardship which leaves the country in a parlous state.

Blue chip stocks slipped from record highs pressured by declines on the big board where 18/30 stocks fell on the session led by Boeing ($152), Amgen and Chevron. Adding to pressure on mrkts the 500's 10 year P/E ratio is 35 which is 72% higher than the modern-era mrkt average of 20•3. Current p/e is 27.

The focus for the rest of the week will be jobless claims and the August US personal consumption expenditure index. Powell's speech at the New York Treasury Market Conference today will be closely watched for hints of further rate cuts.

A below average day on US exchanges as far as volumes were concerned saw Apple shares ($226) fall as sales of foreign branded smart phones inc i phones in China fell in August on an annual basis. Banks came under selling pressure as Citi, BOA and JPMC weighed on the broader bank index which dropped 1%.

HP Enterprise ($20) topped the 500 with a 5% gain after a rating upgrade from Barclays but Ford down 14% this year & GM up 27% ytd lost some of their shine as Morgan Stanley lowered their recommends on auto makers.
