At the bell the Dow fell 100 before buyers had woken up and continued falling as investors sat on their hands. At lunch the Dow was off over 220 points but buyers were soon sniffing round seeking oversold growth stocks and the Dow turned for the better during the pm session recouping c.350 points to end 93 lower.

Despite early weakness Tesla picked up a buy rating from Deutche Bank analysts as vehicle registrations in China came in above expectations and are expected to be ahead 25% for the year. Tesla has preferred status among Chinese car makers.

Early market movers included Jet Blue ($5•66) flying 8% higher after raising its third Q revenue forecast, shares near its 52wk high. Frontier Comms ($35) slumped 10% after Verizon said it would buy the company in an all cash deal worth $20bn and HP fell 9% on news of a $1•35 bn public stock offering to buy Juniper Networks.

Banks were weak on news WB had been selling BOA stock to the tune of 150m shares worth c.$5•4bn since mid July. A clear warning tougher times lie ahead. However some say its just profit taking. Ally Financial ($35) fell 18% in sympathy. The S&P financial industry index was the 2nd weakest sector and its bigest index drag with a 1% drop. Vols on US exchanges was a below average 10•75bn.

Chinese stocks sank to a 7 month low following the acrimonious Trump/Harris debate which pollsters stated Harris shaded. Trade tarrifs are hurting certain Chinese industries particularly biotech companies. Sentiment was further rattled by Trump's antagonism towards China.

Japan's Nikkei index slumps 850 heading to the close.

Morning all.

Wall had a good day though c.200 off its best (41,000) bouncing back from a 1200 points sell off over the last few sessions due mainly to weaker than expected August jobs data and a poor manufacturing print on Tuesday. Clearly this was an overreaction on fears the mrkt is headed into recession. Wall might think so, Main clearly does not.

This week's key events include the CPI report on Wednesday and the debate between Trump and Harris which won't have audience participation. Meanwhile investors are taking a second look at oversold quality stocks, Nvidia a case in point that slumped 15% last week put on $4 to $107 as all 11 S&P sectors closed higher. The 500 is one of the best performing global indexes up 15% this year.

Apple's long awaited launch of their new Ai boosted i phone Pro max costing c.£1200 had an inauspicious start. The stock closing little changed at $221, as customers delay up'grading their phones to the latest status symbol version. Boeing put on $5 to $163 as the plane maker settled a dispute with its largest union narrowly averting a strike.

Shares in Dell Technology ($107) and Palantir (Energy) ($35) rose on news they will join the 500 on Sept 23 replacing American Airlines $11 (joining the S&P midcap 400 index) and Etsy ($52). American once the top airline stock has slipped behind Delta and United.

On US exchanges 10•75bn shares changed hands as advances outpaced decliners by 2•16:1.

Thanx Roger clears that up! Unlike several management's I know of MSi have considerable 'skin' in the game so to speak which aligns their hopes and fears with ours. I hope we hear news of new orders from wherever so as to keep the bullish momentum going. Sometimes staying "shtum" can be worse for investors than posting bad news.

Sydney opened the week considerably lower led down by gold miners, financials and energy stocks. The benchmark ASX200 is off 28 heading into the close having been down 75 at it's low for the day. Ytd the ASX200 is up 5%.

Tokyo is sharply lower adding to losses in the previous 4 sessions (2361 points) to below 35,500 at the mid morning break. Banks and exporters led the Declines. Late on buyers returned taking the market back over 36,000 and ytd is up 8%. Elsewhere only Singapore and Indonesia showed signs of life.

Crude ($72) fell to an 18 month low on persistent concerns about global demand as investors in Asia worry the Fed has left it too late to stop the US tipping into recession. Wall St has turned bearish on Gold though Main Street still believes.

A bad day on the Street yesterday (its worst in 18 months) saw all 11 S&P sectors fall as the DJI and 500 had their highest weekly drop since March '23 following a US Labour Dept data report showing US employers added 142,000 jobs in August well short of most expectations.

It was the 2nd straight month where hiring came in lower than forecast which should have pleased the Fed fearful of the economy overheating. Jobs growth was also revised down to 89,000 below estimates. Pressure is now on for the Fed to cut by 50 basis at the next meet as the fear gauge index hit its highest level in a month.

Stock losses were led by megacap tech growth stocks.

Nvidia ($102) the poster child of all things tech fell 4% to a month low, Tesla ($210) slumped 8% the others between 3% and 5%. Broadcom ($137) was the largest faller down 10% despite earnings beats after forecasting lukewarm 4Q revenues dragging down other high flyers like Super Micro off $28 to $386.

Total volumes across US Exchanges was 11•8bn traded up from the 20 day moving average of 10•7bn. On the Nsdq 1006 stocks rose while 3183 fell on the session.

Morning Roger I wonder what those out of the ordinary trades on Friday were all about? Three quarters of a million in 3 hits all sells is most unusual. Be interesting to see on Monday if there's any delayed reaction. Any ideas?

Three big tranches of sells went through the tape at 990 late on after some Director and associates buys sent the shares to 1040. Prior it had been a very quiet week all round. Anyways c.510,000 were traded on c.89 bargains dealt flattered by the 3 lumpy aforementioned trades.

Midweek MSi stock is down 50 on just 10•8k shares traded (36 bargains dealt). Sells outpace buys by 3:1 in very quiet trading.

Nothing in the way of news to send the shares down from the recent intraday high of 1160 at the AGM. Summer blues and boredom most likely account for the general malaise.

Perhaps it's that old adage "Sell in May come back on St Leger Day?" (Sept 14th). So far that strategy is just working out as the shares were 900 on May 1st, so might show a 10% gain which if you slept through would be acceptable for doing nothing.

Hi Tav, a bit more action than usual today, jobber inspired as per... which I'm all in favour of giving holders awaiting a 'get out' and buyers a 'get in'. As ever US mrkts dominate most pis thoughts when it comes to buying stocks. Who doesn't check the Dow?

I'm not interested in what the London mrkt does it's had too many chances to catch up and revalue underpriced UK stocks which it has no idea how to accomplish and no intention of doing so. Why investors still want to invest in the UK with a Labour regime hell bent on taxing the hell out of businesses and the poor is beyond me. Maybe its d'em black holes Starmer keeps going on about?

Vols and trades are pathetic nevertheless shares tank sub 1000 as jobbers seek buyers for the cheap shares they have accumulated. Won't be long before bottom fishers appear.

Remember it's a snap shot in time and in no way representative of the business metrics. Afterall your not going to dump your shares because 10 people sold ...are you. Well are you?

I'm still waiting for 850 which is probably out of the question but you never know if the US goes into full scale panic mode after Nvidia tanked on disappointing nos and the ripple effect has yet to play out. Currently the Dow is called just 50 lower but knowing how unpredictable US mrkts are don't put any faith in a few hours trading.

Those of a nervous MSi disposition have likely sold out already whereas I'm looking to add believing even in a worst case scenario (Dow at 30,000) there are more plusses than minuses for holders of MSi. Hold and bugger the hindmost is my opinion. Afternoon all.

Holding up better than I thought. I guess even selling has pretty much dried up and bored investors have moved on to other pastures. That's what you call pulling up the drawbridge behind me!!

MSi certain to fall below £10 this morning as jittery investors wake up to the slump in Tokyo after the sell off on Wall last night. The Nikkei closed down 1640 points (4%).

Sell vol has been minuscule (less than 5000) the stock down 50 and looks headed to 900. Long'termers will be watching to buy at these levels assuming H1 nos are ahead of last years (profits £7•7m, revs £57m) earnings for the f/y could approach 90 which would put the p/e around 10 at current which is hardly onerous.

Unfortunately calling MSi nos involves a lot of guesstimating on the outcomes which is extremely frustrating. Plus ca change.
