The Dow closed lower for the 6th consecutive session as producer prices rose more than forecast in November. Increased jobless claims added to the disquiet ahead of the Fed meet next week. However neither report rang warning bells as Powell is expected to keep on cutting rates next week & year albeit at a slower pace.
The Nsdq which surged past 20,000 on Wed hitting a record high of (21,622) came under selling pressure as Adobe ($475) the photoshop maker fell 14% after forecasting 2025 revenues below expectations. Big tech took the brunt of selling. However Warner Bros Discovery ($12•27) soared 15% after reorganising its cable TV business from the streaming and studio operations.
Nvidia retains its no 2 spot in the global big company stakes by $69m ahead of Msoft ($3•342T). There are 8 $1tn+ companies on the list headed by Apple ($3•748T).
Volumes on US exchanges were 13•61bn below the 20 day average of 14•17bn. The S&P posted 10 new highs & 9 new lows while the Nsdq recorded 86 new highs and 154 new lows.
