Asian shares were mostly higher yesterday after a rally in US techs overnight sent the Nsdq up 233. The USD index edged higher in Asian trade after falling 1% on Monday. Treasuries were little changed after the yield on the 30 year note climbed to the highest in over a year while Oils steadied after its first drop in 6 sessions.
On the markets the Dow dipped 26 as 14/30 blue chip stocks rose led by Nvidia, Amazon & Microsoft. Going down Nike, Honeywell & P&G. Nvidia closed at its highest level ever ($150) despite worries about a potential bubble investors continue to talk up the sector. Uber tech ($67) drove higher after the ride hailing company said it would accelerate $1•5bn in purchases of its own stock as the price looks too cheap compared to the strength of its business.
This week will herald the latest updates on monthly job openings along with more economic data. So far the economy has remained remarkably resilient despite high interest rates used to stifle inflation. Also this week will have one fewer day of trading than usual. The NYSE will close their stock & options markets on Thursday in observance of a National Day of mourning for former President Jimmy Carter.
