Several Far Eastern mrkts are open today (see below).

Adding to the risers earlier in the week Tokyo has been climbing all day clearing the 36,500 level with gains across most sectors led by index heavyweights and automakers. The 225 ended up 351 at 39,482.

Elsewhere in Asia mrkts are subdued. Malaysia & Taiwan are edging higher on local buying ahead of the new year while Shanghai, SKorea and Singapore are mixed to lower. HK & Indonesia are closed. On the main mrkts (Latest).

Morning all.

Across Asia most mrkts are close for business only Shanghai's main and junior exchanges and Taiwan's Taiex are trading.

The SHCOMP ended u/c at 3393 that's a ytd gain of 14% while the more speculative junior SHENZEN comp fell 24 to 1994 for an 8% gain to date.

Over in Taiwan the TAIEX added 100 closing at 23,220 a 29% ytd gain the best in Asia. Of note TSMC ranks no 10 in the global bigest companies with a mrkt value of $1•070tn.

In a shortened trading session Wall's main indexes all closed higher yesterday with gains in mega caps and growth stocks. The DJ and Nsdq scored 4 straight days of gains marking the first day of Santa Rally. Nike & UH were the only fallers among the Dow 30 blue chips.

The so called 'Mag 7' led the Nsdq advances especially Teslas 7% jump its best one day gain in 6 weeks as its tie up with Hyundai is expected to see a surge in new electric car customers for the company. Tesla closed at a new high of $465 up 86% this year. Elsewhere chip makers were buoyant as Broadcom, Nvidia and Arm Holdings outperformed reinforcing the view the sector is going to remain strong and do well in 2025.

Oh well I guess everyone is down their locals getting into the Christmas spirit. So I'll close off the last but one days trade in 2024 where buyers returned in force.

Total vol today we're buys outpacing sells by 3•4:1 shares ended up 30p at 940-960 still ways below the high for the year of 1136.

Wish I knew the direction of travel from herein. One can only hope we continue to receive orders from multiple contractors and our Paladin close air defence system that can track and destroy drones while protecting critical infrastructure continues to be widely accepted among worldwide defence companies.

Circumstances are such that I shall be on my own Xmas Day but an expensive bottle or two of plonk and re-runs of "Still Game" on flix will keep me chuckling till i conk out.

So have a merry Christmas with family and friends and bottoms up for a profitable New Year to one and all.

On Wall St stocks moved higher over the day the Dow closed up 67 ahead of the half-day session tomorrow. As the day progressed the 500 & Nsdq climbed into positive territory leaving the small caps as the only down sector albeit by a couple of points.

On the Dow 16/30 stocks closed up led by Nvidia, UH & Merck. Heading down IBM

Disney & Walmart. Vols on US exchanges (12•76bn) were down on the 20 day average of 14•9bn. The "Mag 7" all moved higher helping the Dow to re-coup some of the 1000 points lost last Wednesday when Powell signalled a slower rate cut pace in 2025.

Apple will retain the top spot as the most valuable global company by mrkt cap at $3•9tn followed by Nvidia $3•4tn and Msoft $3•2tn. Others in the $tn rankings inc Meta, Saudi Aramco, Tesla, Google, Amazon, TSMC and Broadcom.

US & UK mrkts will reopen on Friday 27th the last trading day of 2024. Thursday Jan 2 will see the start of a new year's trading.

The Santa Rally starts today and ends Friday Jan 3rd '25.

The period has historically shown higher stock prices about 79% of the time since 1950. The 500 has averaged c.1•3% gain during this time.

At a top end Macys store Santa would expect to be paid c.$60 an hour but in Malls across the US Santa wages vary between $15 and $30 per hour.

Asian mrkts have opened strongly in pre Christmas trading. Traders also welcomed the news that a US Govt shutdown had been averted over the weekend.

Tokyo stocks are significantly higher snapping a 6 session losing streak. The 225 is up near 500 points boosted by gains among heavyweight stocks, motors, exporters and Banks. The Nikkei 225 up 17% this year closed 483 better at 39,184.

In Australia the ASX 200 closed 135 up at 8202 led better by major iron ore miners BHP & Fortescue Metals while oils, and techs are mostly higher. Newmont, Evolution and Northern Star gold stocks are advancing over 1% and among the big 4 banks National Bank of Australia and Westpac closed 2% better on the day. The ASX200 is still shy of the 52wk high of 8514 but is ahead 8% on the year.

Shanghai and Hong-Kong bourses ticked lower in back to back sessions but are on the front foot today as the forecast for Asian mrkts is optimistic for the new year.

The Hang Seng is gaining 121 points but Shanghai has turned lower in the last hour as property and resource stocks come under late selling pressure. On a ytd basis HK is up 16% and Shanghai 13%.

A quiet close to the week with only 15,000 traded today, making a weeks total of 86,000 on 132 trades. No specific share price news to move the stock as investors await further reorganising from the board sometime in 2025.

Concerns that Trump's fiscal, trade & tarrif policies could prevent the Fed Reserve to end its rate cutting stopped the Dow's advance in its tracks yesterday. At its best the Dow was up 445 points and looking to recover some of the 1000 points lost the day before.

Oil and gold prices headed for a weekly decline as US

T/bill yields continued to surge amid expectations for prolonged high US rates. Economic data was in sync with the Fed's view with initial jobless claims falling more than forecast with GDP for Q3 revised to show a 3•1% increase from the previously reported 2•8%.

The Dow inched up marginally after hitting its lowest level in over a month as 18/30 rose on the day led by Boeing, Amex & IBM. Going down Chevron, UH & Home Depot. Bigest faller on the day Micron ($87)off 16% on 2Q guidance missing estimates while leading house builder Lennar ($138) also fell 5% on Q4 nos below expectations a decline in new orders & deliveries and a fall in revenues.

Even with the recent Declines the S&P is up 23% on the year with the Dow up 12% and top gainer the Nsdq ahead 29%.

Hi Rugs, Chemring had a better day yesterday though the 3, 6 and ytd graphs look sickly. Perhaps small UK defence stocks are out of favour at this time?

I tend to think if I'm as undecided as you about a stock its best to sit on your hands. Something will turn up when you least expect it. Not very analytical but when in doubt do nowt!

The prospect of only 2 further rate cuts in 2025 sent Wall St into a tailspin of tumbling prices. The Dow slumped 1123 with just United Health of the top 30 showing a gain. On one of the worst days of the year for stocks which have posted 57 record highs

yields on the 10ytb rose to 4•51% from 4•40% a notable move for the bond mrkt.

Stocks of smaller companies felt the pain the most falling 4•4% on the day.

Nvidia the onetime superstock responsible for a goodly chunk of Wall's rally this year fell over 1% and down 13% from recent highs. The stock has fallen 9/10 trading days but ticked up to $131 after hours.

Morning Roger. Yes my one and only win and almost certainly my last. I will rethink ending my Morning posts as I've been asked to continue reporting the bare nos if I don't want to add any commentary.

Your comments on MSi are spot on I've always considered them the small big company of Aim and are long overdue a re-rate. At least the omens are looking good for 2025 and if we can win more orders, who knows?

Whiie I'm in a talkative mood I have decided to end my US early mrkt reports at the end of this year.

Mainly because I have been doing them for nigh on 20+ years and it's time for a different approach and im slowing down in my old age.

It's not a hard job as long as you religiously post a morning report or the nos to keep UK investors up with US movements overnight and that means pre the 8:00

opening if not before.

If you decide to take on the the task the very best of luck. It won't be difficult to improve on my amateur efforts.

I checked that £10 my father left me is worth £130 at todays prices. So kept up with all the upheavals in the economy over the years. Maybe just leave your nest egg in a tracker for the next 60 years?

Guess what, coming back from my local pub I found a letter from the Premium Bonds for £100. Jeez I'd completely forgotten about these given my father bought me £10 worth in 1962 to celebrate my **** birthday ( I'm not telling you guys)

Can't complain even if my free return took
