Yes it was a company called Rodime which invented the first computer disc drive. Unfortunately through many slipfalls and foreign competition the company went bust but lived to fight on licensing their invention.

Getting paid was a huge problem despite taking their patents to the US Supreme Court which they won the company never recovered. They were finally rescued by Trevor Hemmings who owned Littlewoods Pools which turned into gaming company Sportech. That was my lifeline to get out.

A most unpleasant 10 year experience!

I'm guessing the recent uplift in the sp is mainly based on hopes we may get some orders from the MOD. Unfortunately these are a state secret locked away until the F/Y nos released in late June.

Buyers are taking a lot on trust given the H/Y nos were below expectations due to monies being recognised later than expected or as Mr Bell said "a substantial amount of ongoing work in H1 will not be recognised as revenue until either later this year or in following years."

We still await news on the boards review of strategic priorities of the business which is nearly complete and is likely to mainly involve the Defence businesses but no major upheaval is expected at this stage of the companies evolution.

I agree always good to get as much info from all available sources before one invests. Mind you don't forget where there's a tip there's a tap! The last what I thought was a cast iron tip from a source cost me over £20k! My fault for going in way over the top on what I thought was a no brainer.

It was one of Woodford companies though I was in before he took a substantial position. Took me 5 years to recover not to mention the years of loss opportunity costs!!! Hence I'm down to one large position (for me) with a couple of small punts for interest. Mind you I do get an itchy finger now and again but sensibly swerve the temptation.

I wouldn't worry about bvs they mean zilch Iin the overall sentiment of buyers or sellers. The increased vols are solely buyers jumping on the bandwagon for a trade in the account. As I keep on saying ignore these short term moves. Leave it tobto tradersv

This relentless focus on anti colonialism, cut backs etc...has crippled the defence of this country as successive Govts cut back on defence spending. We can barely put an army Division (10-15k) troops in the field yet are prepared to increase spend on benefits by 100's of % while defence scrapes by on a paltry 8%.

Starmer heads to Paris for an emergency meeting with other European leaders on the question of defence. While happy to commit UK troops he sends them into potentially dangerous situations with hands tied, gaping gaps in manpower and weapons and no commitment to spend 3% on our defence.

Zelensky has said an international & UK force would need to be around 110,000 strong. A sweeping review of our capabilities is due out in the spring.

Asian mrkts opened mostly higher at the start of wk 8 amid easing tensions in the ME and trade wars. Trump has signalled he has been talking to Putin and talks will start between them shortly.

Europe are having their own talks on Ukraine starting today as Starmer commits British troops to a safe keeping role in Europe. He's off to Washington next week for more talks.

In Sydney stocks are notably lower snapping a 4 day win streak led by miners and financials. The ASX200 closed down 35 at 8519 after hitting a low of 8480.

Oils and Gold's pulled the index down with Banks particularly the Adelaide slumping 17% following downbeat H1 nos.

In Tokyo the 225 is flat heading to the close with gains noted in tech and financials offset by weakness in Autos and index blue chips. Major exporters Panasonic & Canon slip back while Mitsubishi sees buyers. Major losers inc Olympus & Dentsu Group falling 12%.

Conversely Credit Saison soars 13%.

Ytd the 225 is down 2% and nearly 3300 points off 52wk highs. In HK and Shanghai both mrkts are lower on local factors. While Pacificas are mixed to directionless on back of static Nikkei blue chips.

Japan's GDP price index was up 2•8% on year and in line with estimates having grown 0•7% in Q4 marking the 3rd consecutive Q growth driven by a strong rebound in business investment.

What looked like being a very quiet week turned out to be the busiest of the year to date. Not sure why this should be the case as total volumes up to Wednesday were only 26,000. Shares fell 86p on the week on 229 bargains dealt though buy vols outpaced sells they quite often paint a different picture. Shares for the first time are down on the year and need the company to be more forthcoming on future plans before June 2025.

As the more I think about the options the board can consider the more confused I get. I think the recent weakness in the shares is symptomatic of that.

Wall St moved higher yesterday extending the recovery from Wednesdays sell off. The major averages all moved towards highs led by the Nsdq surging 296 just 103 short of a record close.

On the blue chip big board only 4 stocks closed lower, 3M, Boeing, Merck & GS. Leading the risers Nvidia, Apple & Cisco. Nvidia now only $315m short of overtaking Apple as the world's most valuable company by mrkt cap.

MGM Resorts set the tone for the day jumping 17% on strong Q profits citing growth in China and its Las Vegas digital business. Others reporting better nos inc GE Health Care up 8%, Molton Coors Beverages up 9% and Robinhood Mrkts surging 14% on expansion into the Asia / Pacifica region and a record crypto trading fees of $358m. Shares gained 7% to $64.

Such reports along with a buoyant economy kept stocks at near record levels largely ignoring Trump's latest reciprocal tariffs on companies perceived to have an unfair advantage over US companies. Its more 'jaw jaw' than 'war war'. Adding to the mrkts good feeling fewer workers applied for benefits last week.

It's bloody freezing down here in South London!! I hope your right about an increase in divs though I can't see it. MSi is I think my 2nd or 3rd share to attract divs, I've always focused on cap appreciation.

What makes you think the company will make a special payout to investors despite scope for a more generous dividend?

As Rachel from accounts travelled to China to seek coin to boost financial services business with the red dragons us Western democracies never learn how to deal with authoritarian regimes.

A share listing for the fashion group Shein based in Singapore but prevented in New York has raised objections from UK institutions. No doubt Rachel will be more than happy to grease palms in an effort to ease the £50bn Chinese company hoped for listing.

The London stock mrkt has become increasingly less attractive than NY since the global financial crisis. The ftse 100 is only up 8% in the past 5 years compared with 84% for the S&P 500 and over 110% for the high flying tech heavy Nsdq driven by the 'Mag 7' focused on new industries and not the shrinking All Share index.

Unlike in the US where tax advantages encourage retail investors here in the UK they are almost non existent owing to stamp duty, cap gains tax and tax on dividends de-insentiving investment. Rachel is all about raising taxes despite her protestations.

Rumours about the death of the City of London are probably exaggerated as London is still the world's leader in Foreign Exchange where bids and deals mean big bucks for banks and city advisors. Anyways real growth comes from manufacturing, not financial services.

The growth at all costs mantra from Labour might sway investors but it will be the Chinese authorities who will have the last word.

On Wall St stocks showed a notable recovery attempt over the course of the session after moving lower during the morning. Dow stocks were split 16 going down led by Amazon, Home Depot & Caterpillar. Heading up 14 firms led by Boeing, Apple & Coca Cola. However by the close sellers had the upper hand.

Mixed cues from mrkt data showing a bigger than forecast increase in consumer price inflation raised speculation the Fed will leave rates on hold for a prolonged period. Traders also remain cautious amid fears of a global trade war and its impact on inflation.

Some traders are betting the Fed will not cut rates at all this year. When the yield on the 10ytb returns a risk free 4•62% traders are less likely to pay high prices for stocks which are already looking stretched.

Trump's plan to meet with Putin in an effort to settle the war with Ukraine has yet to register on mrkts. A 90 minute session between Trump & Putin may not please Ukrainians who could lose the territory gained as part of any settlement deal.

A sovereign and prosperous Ukraine will need to be financed, supported & policed by Europe in the main. Trump will broker the deal then wash his hands and move on to keeping Israeli and Hezhbolla factions from re-igniting the conflict.
