Some of the posters are now showing support for those of us showing a loss(varying degrees). Today was a pleasant surprise in that I rather feared a further scary drop. It would seem likely that it will at least try to end the week above 180, which in the light of events should give everyone a degree of reassurance. I think we can expect that if there is to be any news it will be kept back until the weekend. GLA

Re Labour gov. it is not so much my view, more a case of being in the public domain that Labour would like to have a bank they can use to further their aims. In the last 48 hours there have been suggestions that they would have wanted to prop up TC which would have lead to more bad debts for rbs . I like to look at the graphs offered on this website. They have shown me how buying and selling can increase an investors holding. The dividends have to be taken into account in any calculations. I bought before ex div and this is showing a profit, likewise you bought ex div and again showing a profit; don't know what the best approach is. GL

Are you aware? It is not all about failed bond/takeover, it could be a case of the regulator finding the bank is not following the rules when yesterdays drop could be replicated. I got carried away and invested in this share on 20th Sept before the big drop. DYOR, because I didn't, bum.

Not this banks fault that Thomas Cook was a 19th century business not prepared to change, and fast.

The markets are all about measuring confidence and now it can grow. The graph looks set for a steady rise.
However the threat of a change of government could/will impact on this share. It might be the moment to reduce exposure with this share. Lets recognize Labour don't plan to sell rbs, our investment is at risk.

Brave to buy at the moment, yes the brave can reap rewards; and losses.

Boris likewise must be watching the raindrops and wondering which one to bet on.
He might even resign which is likely to unsettle the markets in a big big way. Corben must be enjoying his coffee; or is he a tea man?

Crystal_Balls so what are you saying? There are lots of views, whats yours? All businesses have to change or die. JPM may die before RBS. The likes of Amazon, Apple, could create their own bank. The technology is there for millions of new banks to be created, the future of traditional banks is not assured. Someone has posted on here the case for Metro bank, but that business is having teething problems. Exciting times.

It was a tough start to the week however it looks like it will rise from here to be above 215 by Friday, just have to see how much the bank stands to lose. Over the years billions have been written off for bad debts, and never appear to see any monies coming back in. Probably save rbs some tax.

Near £2bn owed - don't imagine they have assets worth much-cannot believe the banks saw a future with travel agencies on the high street-the business has been going wrong for a long time.

Thomas Cook is the cause, RBS had big sums out on loans and its blown up in the banks face; at least that is how I see it. It might take a couple of weeks before the markets are reassured that its not going to damage the dividend going forward.

It has taken a while however it is wonderful that the share is now rewarding us with income and real prospect of capital growth. Thought you were going to add it to your holiday fund. Off now, have a great weekend.

A large part of my shares are in Natwest ISA so expected dividend to show up promptly. Had a nice surprise as more than calculated.

Just a thought, you have only to look at the dividends being paid Friday morning.

Maybe the banks need rates to rise creating more scope for variation on rates and margins for profit. I did see that some credit cards charge interest of over 20%, no wonder the poor stay poor.

Actually being more sensible it suits me to have div before a rise, I will get more shares when using div monies. Listening to Today prog I get the impression the world is on tenterhooks with another war on the cards over oil etc. GLA

My target of 210 looks to be realistic for this week, up 4 before starting to write. It is going to be interesting to see whether the div leads to a general buy of this share, maybe it will close at 215 this Friday.
