Some on here are saying they bought in at £5 plus. You could have sold some at 216 today or close to and bought back in at 200 or lower. Giving you possibly say 5% more shares on the amount you played with. Averaging down I can see is not about finding new money to invest but looking at what you have already invested.By reading the posts last night I was in effect advised to avoid a spike in the price in the morning and so bought at about 4pm. Brilliant day, followed advice on here and bought back in this afternoon and ended the day in profit even allowing for buying costs. GLA

I have been out and read the quality press and am seeing the picture in a different way. The message I saw is that the top team of Metro want people to buy their shares and are asking for it to happen. Now that is what every company wants but will it happen? Some of you seem to think it will all come right overnight. I can see the pigs flying overhead oink oink. GLA
P.S. and I do not want to see Metro succeed.

Thankyou. I think I see what you are saying what I was proposing to do was a bit like someone betting on the horses and if not careful I could increase my loss tenfold. I shall stick with the remainder of my original investment in this share. I can add to that when in my opinion there are sound reasons to do so. Good Luck

Thanks for taking the time to respond. I am listening and will make my own decision in the morning. In one week having invested I then pulled out crystallising my paper loss so am wary. Of course I would like to recoup my loss and with added funds, increasing my investment 10 fold can do that with a rise of 30p. I am generally a long term investor but when the share went from 330 to 160 in a few days I panicked. Good Luck and again many thanks.

There are posts saying it will be above 200 on Monday, however as far as I can see there is no substance and it as likely to be closer to 150. It is a very busy board which sucks you in and with enough supposedly informed/positive messages can lead to false hope. GLA

On this site there appear to be informed people offering input on the split which is helpful. However as the golden rule is DYOR can some of you direct me to sources of debate/info on how the split will impact so I can read and digest. Many thanks, hoping some of you respond.

Where you have £310m and £510m my reading of it gives £410m and £510m to give total of £920m.

May I mention that twice I have held shares in a company that has been sold and as a small investor have lost out. Please do not assume that Metro will buck this trend. A buyer could offer say 100p a share, but guarantee to pay into the business £500m or more. The big boys could accept and that leaves you with 100p a share. And you could find it has gone private so you get cash, and cannot participate in a wonderful new business. You get no choice. DYOR and GLA

We will have Pru, and M&G shares in equal number, some may make a decision to hold both or redirect the monies to their preferred option. What seems certain is that we will have some extra divs, how much is yet to be finally agreed. I plan to hold both although I expect the new Pru will show the better medium term performance. They will also have the wealth to ride out any storm(s).

JABH, I see the risk as fairly low whether you are in or out of rbs for say the next 3 weeks. 'Don't see that much opportunity to buy at a lower price, nor do I see a rise that will make you glad you stayed invested. I have scope to add some more monies to my ISA, so 'am putting £7000 in thinking that if it suddenly drops I can take advantage. But I am also considering directing the monies to a buy of Prudential shares as I think there is a chance of a nice profit as they demerge from M&G(again happening in October).

On 20 Oct 1969 I started work in Chancery Lane in the Pru head office; not sure whether that's a good omen.

It looks like the sp will bumble along now until late Oct when we will get an update on 3rd qtr results. Its starting to look like there is no reason for it to rise or fall by a significant amount. Of course if a decision on dreaded B comes out or a date for an election is announced then anything could happen. What's the view out there?

If my calc correct that could give 50p a share. However I would like to see a share buyback instead.
