Earnings are borderline impossible to compare due to continued acquisitions. Can they afford the debt is a valid question but as both debt and earnings are both changing continually - who knows?

Earnings will certainly not decline due to acquisitions.

Unstable dividend - it was reduced once! Significant but a change in strategy to fund growth.

Profit margins - again difficult to compare due to the way financial derivatives (hedging) are treated in the accounting rules.

Shareholders have been diluted but will be much more diluted in 2025!

There are risks but this article doesn’t articulate or numerate them with any insight.

Best way for shorters to not lose out is to buy twice as many shares as they need to close then recover on the upside what they’ll lose on the shorts.

That would take some decent export prices then SOMO actually paying KRG and then KRG actually paying the IOCs for a change.

Don’t agree that advertised and significant BBs don’t impact share price and hence market cap.

There are many views on the purpose of buybacks.

BoD will either be made redundant after a take over or sacked if it doesn’t go ahead.

Think we all hope that - it would be nice to see some evidence that Iraq /KRG want it so much they’re prepared to pay a fair price for the oil.

Although it seems logical that the BBs provide additional buying stimulus that “should” at least support the share price, there is little empirical evidence this is the case. So many factors contribute to the share price on a given day it is impossible to identify the precise impact of BBs.

Take 21 Feb as an example - BBs in play but share price falls - now it might have fallen further without BBs but we’ll never know. Could also argue that BBs alienate potential investors who would rather have larger dividends and that it indicates a BoD who really don’t know what to do with their spare cash.

If share price low in historical terms and or dividend payments high then I can see a better argument for BBs as you’re saving that much dividend every year but none of these apply to HSBA currently so I’d rather have the dividend so I can decide what to spend it on thanks.

Terry, you’re correct - shareholder approval was always going to be requested for Maverick shares 21 million of them! This was in accordance with original acquisition RNS.

Recent shares are totally new, never advertised and never voted on! It’s a democracy til it isn’t 😀😀

IFaze - having watched the share price fall from £24 to sub £9, although with hindsight that was an opportunity, we had hope, definitely not confidence!

Of course dividends aren’t guaranteed but the company strategy was to pay out a percentage of FCF as dividends ( see successive Investor Presentations).

The unilateral move away from this strategy was never voted on or advertised in advance until the massive dividend cut and subsequent price collapse.

Personally (as per previous posts) I think this new strategy will eventually make money (that’s why I’m not selling up at a 25% loss) but it’ll be years later than I originally thought.

You and your 20:20 hindsight trading doesn’t work for most of us - if you want to be clever post your trades in advance (Trek manages it) not months after the event!

Problem now isn’t finances, it’s credibility!
