I’m not sure buying and holding works anymore, for any share.

Even dividend shares seem to drop more on xd day than the value of the dividend so you’re often better selling up prior to xd and buying back in again.

HSBC, IAG, Aviva etc would all have made you more money last year with buying in and out rather than just holding (even with dividends). The market has changed.

For my part I think there may be a deal, at a price determined by Sidara and WG iis at the time when they can agree. Everything else is subjective (or perhaps delusional) optimism.

There was a pretty hefty penalty clause (50 million I think) if DEC didn’t go ahead with the deal. If you add that to costs of ABS X and costs of the recent equity raise not going ahead would have been throwing money away. At least the markets will soon see the impact on bottom line, rather than just the increased shares and increased debt.

That’s why IOCs are prepared to play hardball and hold out for decent, enforceable contracts. The days of trusting Iraq or KRG to play fairly are long gone.

IOCs can hold out longer than KRG - and if US are serious about sanctions then longer than Iraq as well.

IOCs will never get the upper hand again so they’ll maximise the deal.

If Turkey pays the fine for "illegal" use of the pipeline for KRG oil to Iraq, that will provide a large buffer of cash to allow payments on delivery rather than months in arrears.

Of course, Turkey doesn't want to pay the fine, Iraq would rather have cheap oil from Iran than IOC oil at international prices and the IOCs only want International market prices. KRG just want a percentage of something asap - but still want cheap local sales as well.
