Mulder, it kinda depends:

If the extra shares are issued at todays opening price then you’re correct.

If however they are issued at some unknown, potentially much reduced price (and we don’t know) then a bigger drop is to be expected. Why buy today at market price when they might be cheaper come the offer day.

Last of the buybacks was at £9.20 - at least we’ll get more than that for new shares - if you’re looking for small positives 😀😀

Let’s hope they manage to pay off the most expensive debt first this time. Hopefully the 7.8 % stuff.

Frustratingly none of this shenanigans will be in the EOY accounts so once again YoY comparisons impossible.

YB’s summary was correct - what IC says is plausible, but to call forward financial projections facts is stretching credibility. Especially when so many of WG’s forward projections have been “not facts.”

Your first 2 paragraphs imply a normal trading update just happened to coincide with a forced seller to cause the drop!!! Really? The poor update caused the drop! The fact it followed a previous poor update and a poorly communicated need for a review made it worse.

Of course the BoD comms influence investor sentiment / emotion - that’s what we’ve all just seen!

Unfortunately I think the narrative that they pay dividends out of debt is still kicking about.

Combine that with “weird” profit / loss figures caused by accounting requirements for derivatives (see Trek’s previous post) and we have doubt / divvy too good to be true emotions impacting share price.

Think sentiment following accounts is based on expectations.

Exceed forecast - SP rises.

Meet forecast - small fall as it was already priced in.

Fail to meet forecast - big drop.

Need to exceed forecast and provide a surprise such as special dividend or increased BBs to get much of a bump upwards I think.

Still total silence from IOCs and AKIPUR on how much IOCs might actually get paid for all this exported oil and when and how and by whom.

Exporting oil for nonpayment has been an expensive hobby for IOCs over the last decade - check monies still owing in accounts for GKP, DNO and Genel.

doubt local sales would stop as punishment. it’s cashflow for iocs and krg get cheap oil and the chance to deal direct without iraq interference - add the fact that it will **** off iraq and i guess the krg will try to continue as long as possible.

Let’s hope they play hardball and get a decent deal.

Wouldn’t surprise me if Iraq’s master plan, once they’ve sidelined KRG from the big (£25bn) kirkuk deal with BP, is to assist BP take over all the ioc licences in KRG.

We all saw how well IOCs fared at arbitration!

My point was no-one knows how much the IOCs will get or how or when.

All legal work to date is sorting out Iraq to KRG budget, not recognising that IOCs do all the work and provide all the investment - oh, and the oil!
