Don't any of you negative posters ever take on board Buffet's strategies? If you are a trader and keep getting hurt then maybe you should stop trading? I buy excellent companies with a 2-3 year view. I don't trade and thus don't whine when the price takes a hit. There should be a separate board for traders so they can mutually commiserate/congratulate each other.

In the first place RR is exactly the stock that pretty well meets Buffet's buy and hold criteria. A world leading position in its markets; a phenomenal leader and the very best engineers. What could go wrong? Nothing. I am very annoyed with my agent as I was meant to be exchanging on the sale of a property today and my intention was to put 25% into RR. Exactly. This is a man who just loves to think he does win-win. However, he has now discovered that the great American public is, unlike him, uninsulated from the markets. When they begin to understand how he has torn up their retirement plans their hostility to him will be brutal. I think all have to be guided by Buffet. A few weeks ago MKS was trading at 323. In these turbulent times it has held steady at 350. I think the results are going to be 'beautiful' as the weird Trump would say

MKS is the one share that I am relaxed over though having said that I thought the same with RR. Our only hope is that Powell bends to global pressure and the Fed cuts. It usually does when markets get hit. I have resolved to just mainatin my 3 year view that all will pass. I suspect Trump will soon be announcing he has won and everything will settle back to normal. The worrying thing is that America ever thought this man was suitable to lead the Free World. Maybe now they will be more cautious of electing mentally unwell people. I looked at Trump's face as he talked of 'medicine' today. It was the face of a man not so sure of himself. He talked a lot about world leaders calling him up etc. To me, this is a prelude to him saying on Wednesday that the world that he has won and tariffs will be delayed. I have a big paper loss but there is no other stock that I would want to hold. Rolls Royce will bounce back.

A good, well-reasoned post. I am sitting on a paper loss but I have to keep thinking that I bought for three years down the road. I am not a trader. When I have attempted to I made made huge losses. Now, I choose well-run company described concisely by whatcangowrong as a global leader in its various fields. There can be no better underwriting of RR's future prospects. I hope in three years not be wishing I had sold and moved to cash but somehow I feel not!

The only people who need to panic are the amateur traders. This is a premium quality company headed by an extraordinary leader. These sorts of leaders cannot bear failure. In a month or two Trump will have done his deals and the world will settle. RR will be a significant beneficiary. A month or two back MKS were down to 323 now close to 380. OK, MKS is immune to tariffs but the lesson to be learned is that great leaders overcome obstacles
