I assume a bid for MKS would only arise if the damage was so longtail that instutional investors (the 80%) felt lacking in confidence in the company's ability to weather the storm. Forget the analysts it would be fascinating to know what the big holders are thinking

The wonderful thing about this company is as you have described. But will they feel there was laxity in protecting against hackers? That will be critical in terms of whether they support the company.

I think that is very good advice in these circs and sold a big chunk at 374. I hated doing this but i had too many eggs in one basket but more so because i don't feel I am getting information. That's fine and is the perogative of the company but I feel I have to look after my back. It has taught me a very important lesson about diversification. I am sure not too soon there will be resolution

Probably they have friends or relations who work for MKS(or London Underground) Maybe, in the case of MKS pensioners who rely on dividends from the company. The poor staff and management are having to deal with something that should never have happened. The only way to prevent reoccurrence are exemplary punishment. 20 years mandatory for interfering with a company's security systems should be mandatory. This is my feeling...

The SP could fall back to say 350/360 within the next few days and then start to rise back to the late 380's as we approach results. I just cannot believe that MKS can annouce good results overshadowed by the attack. My big concern is how a sophisticated company could have IT workers so poorly trained to be conned. If this happened at a bank heads would roll. I am desperately hoping that pre results will be able to tell us that the situation is now under control

Thanks Fender. It says much about the lousy way this country is managed that these kids were allowed to do what they did. It seems quite clear now that they are quite known. There now needs to be aggressive action to hunt them down. This country has truly lost its way in the world. I hope you are right that its just online and stock control needs fixing. They need this sorted before results. Do you agree it would be bad if still outstanding. Interesting that none of the big investors seem to be in panic mode

Iontheup....that's such a tough question. My gut feeling is that MKS will be given a bit of loose rein just on the basis that Stuart and Archie have not just done a remarkable turnaround but have strong future plans. It would be interesting to see how investors behaved towards other companies hit by cyber attacks in the past. I suspect they were not unduly punished. How the results are announced is critical. With the main dailies they need to do one to one briefings. Financial journalists ALWAYS call up their favourite retail analyst for a view so vital that A and S are 100% upbeat about the future. If they handle results contact effectively the SP will be undamaged.

Fender thanks. It's not that I am especially negative or bullish. I am long term here as I really like the company. I feel sorry for staff and management and I am sure that within days it will be sorted. I am a bit old fashioned so am not going to kick them when they are down and I am sure that the results will be so sparkling that no one will be disappointed.

The one thing coming out of this is that they should never have to face this criminal act again. I also don't think think the media coverage is affecting the SP. On the contrary, I think MKS shoppers are intensely loyal and are making an especial effort to remain loyal. Sorry for the rambling reply but I am taking a 2 year view on the shares. I don't have the guts to come in and out

Fender, why do you think the SP is relatively firm? I am surprised there has not been a hysterical reaction with all te press coverage. I actually wonder whether press coverage these days has much impact either way. If I were a big institutional shareholder I would be talking on a daily basis with the co and not bothering with s/h media stuff. I am astonished t just packed the shops are
