In the fairly recent past a ball park figure was £5k per annum for every £100k invested dependant on index linked rises, payout guarantee terms etc etc.
I took a small annuity for £30k with Aviva a couple of years ago when I was around 58 which pays about £1500 a year with a minimum guaranteed payout period.
I had a main pot of just over £250k as did my wife. We both transferred into flexibly managed investnent funds and draw down what we need annually.
Best to speak with a few IFAs to see what's best for you, it's well worth the small amount they charge although their fees do vary considerably as do the charges the funds make. NO advice intended of course just reflecting my personal circumstances as always .DYOR.

Hi Tony . Re FTSE I have bd successfully. Re pulling out if this I did just prior to and just after consolidation, left a very few just for the fun of it.
Some here need to face the reality that the only consistency here is the falling share price. I am however happy to admit I was wrong regards the cash call at around 7p........now looks more like 2p. AIMO of course.

I've held Aviva shares for many years. It's almost exactly the same message every time from the last 3 CEOs. Cutting staff numbers and closing buildings are easy wins but do not solve the underlying issue. Millions were spent on merging the parts of the company together to "save money and make things more streamlined" . This happened on Mr Tullochs watch. Now he's suggesting we split the company parts to " reduce our costs"
Talk is cheap, money buys houses as they say. Progressive dividend policy is the latest buzzword. Unless he can deliver on that statement like L and G have the chances of this reaching £6 anytime soon is dreaming.

Move forward to the latest appointment of Maurice Tulloch.......seperate business.....cut staff numbers.......reduce the use of contractors....promise better dividends.
Can I suggest to Mr Tulloch that if he gets his arm cut off he just sticks an Elastoplast in the wound. Judging by his mindset that is what he believes Aviva needs to ensure a progressive and permanent change for the better?
Someone needs to grow some and point him in the right direction. Perhaps that's what Tom Stoddard did and uttered the consequence?
Aviva needs significant, leading edge management to push the company forward. Look what Tidjane Thiam (formerly Aviva) did for Prudential.
There have been too many years where Aviva have been happy to put people in place, pay them big performance bonuses ( just cut numbers and reduce costs shot term) and move on a few years later.
Enter the next one and start process again. As usual with Aviva steady ,steady same old same old.

The one certainly is that LTHs won't as. In fact anyone buying in within the last 6 months will be the same! Down to 4.8.
