Just had mine fitted. Still fitting Smet1 apparently. From what I understand they are still arguing about the protection of data etc so no Smet2 until at least Oct. Any Smet1 will be dumb if you need to switch suppliers.

Morning Tony. Most monitoring stations for CCTV etc work on the basis of a front end server and software (the head end.) The monitoring equipment in the field reports the information back and the software manages it. Dependant on the software the licence usually restricts the number of reporting devices allowedand you would purchase additional licences to add more minutes devices. Not saying that would apply to Cyan however that is the usual business model . The only proviso is that you need to sell your solution first. Hope that helps. Jake

All positive and accurate. You will however note as soon as the text moves to orders and income the text changes to "opportunities " and "expected". It's sometimes what's not said that's relevant.

Evening LTI. As always CC are always careful with the wording. The two words that stand out in the statement are "opportunities " and "expected". Both suggestive but not committing to anything.

Morning Tony. Think it was Bad that suggested that. As I say there are many players in this field and my guess is that it could turn into the old VHS v Betamax scenario again but on a larger scale. The winners will be another facebook microsoft I'm view. For IOT really take off an agreed standard for compatibility needs to be in place ,my thoughts for what they are worth is that the big players will dictate what these are. History tells us that the strong survive. Even if CC came up with the Holy Grail of software which JC seems to be suggesting they would just be taken out. I find it hard to believe that JC is unaware what's already know the market place, if he doesn't he shouldn't be in his position. Looking back I think JC has just been jumping on the latest trend. Probably be accused of being negative but that is an honest and open opinion. I've not got as much skin in the game as some on here so am comfortable to see this out and stand or fall by my decision.

A similar system has been developed and used for CCTV monitoring for some years. With IOT unless everything is compatible or be made to work together it would never take off. A good example are video files mkv, avi , mpeg4 etc. A modern music player can play all files whatever the format.

Morning CB. In my view JC has as you say been light on the detail. My honest opinion is that CC realise they are in a bit of a hole and need to find a solution, the problem is I do think they are behind the curve with this. My link this morning proves others are already on the case. I guess their choice is to do nothing and hope or try and develop a solution. In blunt terms I personally won't be investing more any time soon.

Morning LTI. I agree, I know from experience how long it takes to get things through with a large company and how painful it can be! I guess only time will tell if CC are leading edge, cutting edge or just behind the pack. For me the positive is CC are trying to develop a solution to pull everything together. If successful that will be where the money is. Anything proprietary has one major negative in that of compatibility. Initially security manufacturers built their own proprietary brands so they could sell at a premium price and tie customers in. The industry soon discovered the error of their ways and changed tack.

Hi 2CV. You could be right., I guess it would be ironic if CC benefitted in that way. My only concerned as that it may be they have little choice and need to develop something else to make the CC offering feasible and attractive. The CCTV industry had a similar issue albeit on a smaller scale. Manufacturers produced many different DVRs with their own proprietary software and features. The only problem was that each monitoring station had to run all the various software front ends. Companies developed software that could manage all various types of dvr with the manufacturers proprietary software running in the background. Seems to be what CC and others are looking at with IOT. VHS and Betamax all over again!!
