Just sat through a discussion about 2nd generation Covid Vax and a couple of points may be of interest.
I 2021 May be a shortage of trial volunteers for large studies as can’t include people who have been Vaccinated.Will target younger people to build herd immunity long term
2.Timing will be in Q1/Q2 2021 for phase 1 trials but build on whole momentum.
3. New Vax will need to really need to offer something different to overcome the high /bar.So direct comparisons,measuring different bits so CD4,8 and B Cells.
4. A lot of 1st gen Vax are similar in that targeting S protein only based on RNA and more on neutralising ABs.not whole virus apart from Sinovax.
5. Lot of work on SiRNA as therapeutics as mRNA more preventative.
6.DBA based Vax are much easier and cheaper to Manu.
Upshot is that plenty of candidates will be looking at HC trials for a host of reasons.

Been busy and really little to add re yesterday discussion after Rays summary.
Interesting Karl Sikora was in audience and RG/Barry Gibb as expected.Was a round table discussion discussing more general rather than specifics and they all knew each other pretty well.
Sally said 3 main things are needed from 2 nd Gen Vax.
1.Target multinational antigens so more than just one.
2.Target different components than simply neutralising ABs to induce a memory and longer immune response.
3.Quicker and cheaper to scale up and manu which DNA is as compared to RNA.
Matti from Karolinska made point it will be harder to enrol older patients in particular due to roll out of Vax.
However he said it is the younger folk under 50 who should be targeted to build a long term herd immunity so
Sally said good news for SCLP.

Point was made that the 2nd gen Vax will be looking to do p1 in Q2/2 21 but they can progress things very quickly so good that SCLP can progress their Approach ASAP as have necessary resources.
I did not go into the break out room with Sally as did not think you were going to learn anything new and had no specific questions so left at that stage.

LL just to clarify the Orph RNS it is a phase 1 Trial using an attenuated whole virus. It is not a HC trial.

Just wondering if the 500k is a Diggle buy as well delayed from yesterday as was 10.5 and within minutes of the 750k buy yesterday.

C7- agree the 750k trade at 10.5 did look like a buy given Vulpes additions.However, I just did not see that many trades below 10.5p to provide for all those buys so have you been counting the sells from non LSE to provide for these buys.

Another 500k trade popped up at 10.5p.All about the same sort of time.Very odd as very little under that level certainly not to allow these to be buys unless a very big sell to come.
However Diggle buying at this level so could it be a transfer of some kind maybe off market

If you look at the 3 trades to form the Vulpes buy the 170k one if the 20ks. And the 58853 then the 750k May be a buy

Great to see Vulpes buying more.
So is that 750k trade at 10.5p not a sell but more from Vulpes?
So does not matter what is important is Vulpes buying at that level but why are we not moving up.

Have not been following trades and I bought a few at 10.5 last week but I presume the 750k is a sell.

I don’t know have enough experience of Redmile strategy to if they operate only one way.I suspect that they like to control or at least shape its investments and this can take a variety of paths.
My understanding of its Redx involvement was more about it had to step up due to the dire situation Redx were in rather than any direct wish to get more involved and was its investment in Bion Tech not just a straight fund investment seeking a return.
With SCLP I think they have control and presume they want that option there own way.
So I am not saying they always want ultimate control as I am sure they just want to control their investment as best they can.
With a large outfit like Bion Tech that was not possible either financially or even personally( meaning BionTech want to remain in control) but with SCLP it is much easier as it is a much smaller financial commitment and also I believe the BoD are much more sanguine and acquiescent about relinquishing control.control

Hasiba our starting point is similar in that we both have confidence in the interest of Redmile in advancing the SCLP platforms. It is just the length of the journey that we differ on and even then we know that future and at present unknown details will largely influence that.
Totally agree that Redmile and Vulpes control the outcome here and I don’t think the BoD are averse to this situation.
Again agree that without the recent raises they were struggling to progress the science further.
I was not stating that SCLP was going to do it on its own in fact quite the reverse
The point of the extra Redmile cash was to advance the science along multiple fronts as quickly as possible and again I agree commercial partnerships would be required to take it into p3.
So in fact the only thing I disagree with is you think Redmile will likely put in additional funds to progress the science beyond the validation of the required trial data.
I am more circumspect and that at this stage the deals will be done with pharma

Nice article AS and I think OROH is in a great position to be in advance of other pandemic threats.
Also agree the human side could gain a lot from interacting much more with the veterinary side and I know this is already happening within pharma.
Their animal health field has been much more aware of pandemic threats for much longer and the consequences of current and future zoonotic threats.
They have already been using the same technology that the Oxford Vax uses very successfully for more than 15 years and have a few Coronavirus Vax already.
One of issues on human side is that many pandemic threats until Covid have not really affected the rich countries hence fairly limited response in past but this has totally changed hiw and the level of preparedness will be much better in the future.
This can only help ORPH immensely

Forgot to mention but a very important part of future and could really be an ace or two in the pack is the mABs and Avidmab

Yes AB more patience required as most of the LTH here have showed that in abundance over the last years.
Excellent post from Bermuda highlighting the likely intentions of Redmile.
It is very likely imo that they are seeking to demonstrate the evidence of Moditope in the clinic and SCIB 1/ Combo data and to the point where they can really validate the potential here and in doing so advance multiple candidates.
Let me say from the start they obviously believe the underlying story here and are prepared to back it with large amounts of hard cash.
However none of this is a given and thence to talk about p3 trials before they get to that stage is premature.Plus as Bermuda says I don’t think SCLP has that plan.
I believe the BoD will want to monetise this ASAP given their track record and I believe they are fully aligned with the majority of SH and certainly Redmile and Vulpes.
Covidity will largely be deisked due to the Govt money and it’s future will depend on its initial results and general Vax situation but I don’t see it as being part of the long term plan save for maybe demonstrating value of IB as a platform for non cancer indications.
So very happy here and just patiently waiting for inflection points but if we are still waiting beyond 21/22 I will gone
