The word bemused is a funny one and I think that CF is using it slightly out of context as “ surprised” rather than “ bewildered”.Yes it would not be a surprise to many of us who know the closeness of the personnel links between ORPH and SGS and the search for these specialised premises is extremely limited.
So what can we assume.
It is likely to be in Europe as the facility needs to be managed from the U.K. re much of expertise and IRPH has not made any attempt to recruit folk overseas so there must be a skilled workforce already available with top up expertise available from ORPH.
So choices imo are Govt,SGS or a University like Leiden. So University’s and Govt are likely to be too small and the Govt has already made Royal Free available on preferable terms and for Covid.
So I just can’t see that they would do the same again at another facility if there was one which I am not sure about.
Plus if it was Govt I dint think CF would have put a January confidence last night but waited.Also comments re light lease with option breaks and half filling it strikes me as much more commercial than a Govt deal.
So that leaves SGS which would be a surprise to some as they are seen as a direct competitor.
However there are plenty of complementary activities which could benefit both and close personal links which seem cordial given past movements.
SGS have made a big investment and maybe welcome the business that ORPH can bring and certainly don’t seem to be acting as a competitor so my money is on SGS,maybe at any existing facility at Antwerp to strat with but then to expand into the new facility on an agreement that mutually suits both parties.

Sure you are right about 3 rd facility as has to be in Europe as has to be serviced in part from U.K. re expertise and only really SGS has a facility. For ORPH to get a light touch lease via a competitor is unusual though helping to make the facility up to capacity does help SGS.
The CF comment regarding the 3rd facility of “ bemused and excited” would be only applicable to someone like SGS.CF is confident in calling this from January including a new RSV contract.The experience of folk like Adrian Wildfire is crucial and if ORPH got 6 or 7 staff via Chimagents then there is an awful lot if cooperation going in far above normal levels.

This s not normally Andrew Catchpole Territiry but reading between lines it appears China may have approached ORPH to do a HC trial validating their Approach,get Approval and overcome any scepticism of using a Chinese Vax.

Evening there was a big article in the Times today profiling Adrian Hill Head of Jenner institute and mentioned this malaria Vax Oxford are producing.
Firstly it is not proven in p3 yet but shows promise.Look at what happened to the Universal Flu Vax which failed p3 recently.
Also the malaria approach of Imutex is different using the mosquito saliva so is looking at a universal malaria Vax which is another holy grail.
Malaria has never had a proven Vax as other one is only 30% and is a very difficult pathogen to combat in a Vax due to its size as say compared to a virus.
So the Immutex one could be great for a competitor and is being disposed by ORPH.
The most important point if the whole debate and article is the huge new focus on Vax which will be very beneficial for ORPH.
Why do you think that ORPH want to develop new malaria HC models unless they see a lot more Makarua Vax being developed

Yep the anti virals helped a lot 2nd time around.
I think many people are “ immunised” against the effects however the Herpes virus lies dormant until your immune system is compromised assuming you are normally healthy only when you are working excessively long hours or under undue stress when it flares up as Shingles.

Very interesting Ruck the getting Chicken Pox multiple times.
Most people get it as a child but then the Herpes Zoster virus stays dormant and flares up as Shingkesvoften when your immune system is compromised.
I have had Shingles twice the first time in my 20s when I was doing lots of travelling and long hours but I was actually pleased to get an explanation for the pains in my chest rather than being anything else lol
