EU Caving?3 Dec 2016 16:17
Richard Spencer of The Times tells me EU officials are said to have accepted that previous western demands that Assad steps down are unrealistic. Instead, the EU foreign policy chief, Mogherini, put new proposals to opposition leaders at a meeting 2 weeks ago, with an offer of aid and investment as a sweetener for all sides.
There was a proposal from GPX for an oil for food aid deal to be outside EU sanctions but that was a good many months ago - with the above seismic shift in political policy it seems likely that there may be renewed opportunities for GPX.
