It seems like a number of scientists have been saying this for a while but the idea of second wave got cemented into mainstream discourse and now no-one will leave the paradigm. It's also been mentioned that the 1918 epidemic was influenza which is different from this it also had an estimated death to case ratio of above 2.5% whereas covid is currently put at 0.65%.

Yesterday Florida reported lowest new cases in 12 days...looks like today was lowest in 20 days. Texas yesterday had lowest cases since June 28th today looks like it's been the lowest new cases since June 21st.

Perhaps to say they are starting to fall is premature but they have clearly at the moment reached a plateau. Deaths have been increasing slowly for atleast a few weeks which is hardly surprising given how much cases have risen. However the death lag in a few days will have caught up with the start of the current peak in cases (it's about 95% there) and the rates of death to case has been a lot less than it was previously.

2nd Sept is over 5 weeks away and US cases already look like they're starting to fall.

It's not sustainable to live like that, every winter we could pass on the flu to elderly people which could kill them but this doesn't stop us living our lives (covid is worse than flu probaby but same principle). Not wanting to pass things on to the elderly and vulnerable in the long term leaves you not able to ever meet anyone or really do anything.

Who's going to risk their live to watch a film? Well as someone under 50 and with no health conditions I believe my risk of dieing from covid is something like 3 times less than in a car accident and on paar with the flu so I will.
Where are you getting the idea that it's highly likely there will be a second wave? There are lots of scientists who are not predicting one, the big second wave idea is based on influenza which this isn't. Even if it comes back in some form we will protect the care homes better this time where 50% of the deaths have been in the UK (70% of them in Spain).

Similar with the France cases. Don't think they will amount to many deaths - the death to infection ratio has dropped dramatically over the last 4-6 weeks from it's peak. Might still take the market a while to realize this though.
Trouble with events sector is they have to be planned ahead so that makes it more difficult however as I said I can hold for the long-term.

Maybe it's the 6 weeks of bear market we've had but I can see tomo being a red day for leisure/hospitality. It obv will be for tourism due to the spanish quarantine and the sentiment might spill over. Think cineworld will move upwards over the week though.

NoFear what slightly annoys me is the media constantly using the word pandemic aswell as people who are pro-lockdown in online comments. Whilst it does qualify as a pandemic due to it growing in different parts of the world simultaneously, the reason I think the word is used so much is it conjures up images in most peoples mind of a virus with a death rate of atleast 3-10% or even more. However the US Centre for disease control is currently putting it at 0.65%. Worse than flu yes (though it does keep being revised down so who knows) but clearly below the disaster levels one associates in their minds with the word pandemic.

Texas cases also look past their peak. Only issue is the new spikes in Spain and France might put off some investors however it might also persuade studios there is no point waiting around for the perfect time to release a film.

Without wishing to sound Trumpesque, I believe the newer spikes in Europe are mostly due to 20-40 year olds now getting tested in increasing numbers. Without the tests they probably wouldn't have realised they had the virus (80% of people are asymptomatic). There are no reports of increased hospitalisations etc.

Indepth I still don't understand how you can be so obsessed with a stock you are neither invested in or shorting.

I think younger people will def get back to the cinema, they have no fear of covid (rationally if you look at the stats), if nightclubs reopened they would be packed imo as it's mostly under 30s and the illegal raves show there is little fear. Therefore I can see gyms being busy and bowling alleys when they open. Which will bode well for leisure footfall, my local cineworld is next to a bowling alley/gym/restaurant area.
