What annoys me is I have to jump through hoops to open any form of bank account and yet scammers don't seem to have any problem. I appreciate some scam accounts will be overseas but to transfer from a UK bank account still requires a degree of cooperation in this country.

A week ago today PHNX were less than 4.90 due to the rehashed story in the FT crashing the price.

It’s frightening how influential the media/internet is these days, although it’s probably the speed. Nowadays the algos & herd mentality kick in and cause the damage before the brain acts.

So with the main market flat, a BB just started and going XD tomorrow at close to 10% pa we’re down nearly 2%.

Nothing wrong with feeling passionate about a subject. The reason I normally stay clear is often things turn nasty, and who doesn't want great healthcare?

I still feel that simply throwing in more money is not the answer. I'd suggest that money that should have been spent on the ceiling has probably been spent on something daft, like printing menstrual guides for men in dresses.

I do totally get where you are coming from on the private issue. My aunt was recently told she needed a new hip and the surgeon advises he can do it in 'X' months on the NHS or a couple of weeks privately.

I'm not sure I quite agree with the NHS being deliberately rundown. From my own personal experience, and the ONS figures, I think there are other factors as to why the service is struggling. Ageing population, medical advances, immigration and bureaucratic waste for a start.

One might traditionally expect the Tories to primarily look after their rich mates and Labour the less active. I'm not sure there's that much difference these days with so many now being taxed at the higher rate and benefits having recently increased 10%.

As is often the case the solution is probably somewhere in the middle. The wealthy should pay more but not so much that they flee the country, and a life on benefits should not be a career choice.

Trek has mentioned before that the tax system really needs an overhaul and I wholeheartedly agree.

TBH common sense should tell you that putting the cost up by a fifth will force some parents to move their children.

As the state schools are already bursting at the seams and the LP haven’t twigged what will happen, I would suggest that the net result will be a further deterioration in education standards.

Quite frankly why we are wishing to bring it down to a lower standard is beyond me. Why not do the opposite and try and raise it?

Education being used for political football just like the NHS is wrong on every level.

Jonathan Ashworth was asked yesterday how Labour are going to pay for all their promises now non-dom has been pinched. Apparently it's the VAT on private school fees but the look on his face when it was pointed out that 1,000s of places will now be needed in the state system for parents who can't afford it was priceless.

Heaven knows how he will feel when he reads the report today from the Adams Institute that they are likely to make a loss on the new tax.

These modern career politicians have no idea of the real world and I wouldn't even trust them to run the Sunday meat raffle.

Ex Dividend means if you purchase shares on or after the quoted xd day, today for Rio, then you are EXCLUDED from receiving the next dividend payment. So if you purchased RIO today the sellers would receive the next dividend payment due in April and the purchasers would have to wait for the next dividend due in September.
