Had a similar thing recently nom with a sh*tbay account that I'd held for 20 years. They pretend it's to do with banking regulations and wanting to be your friend, and then force you to do it by withholding your money. Total load of guff imho.

These organisations bypass a lot of our rules (and paying tax) by being registered overseas, surely it can't be too difficult to introduce legislation that if you trade in the UK you have to comply with all our rules on an equal footing with UK based companies?

I too topped up on PHNX yesterday.

According to their website half year results are due 18th Sept with a provisional xd date of 28th Sept.

I seem to recall PHNX next divi announcement is September Trek.

Several times now I've missed the YU advice from Trek. I fancy another holiday too so I'll keep some cash in reserve for next time! Thanks Trek.

Good advice which is appreciated although I’m slightly surprised Trek didn’t suggest DEC!!

He’s got two adult kids so I’m going to suggest he utilises all of their allowances.

For anyone else interested Trek touches on an important point regarding interest. A 12 month fix with payment at maturity would all be taxed at the end whereas monthly payments would straddle two tax years.

It's a refreshing change to have a discussion on this subject without all the normal partisan hysteria!

FWIW our present system only encourages short term-ism and we all know the UK has several ticking time b*mbs.

The only way forward I can see is to take certain things out of the political equation. Regardless of political leanings everyone would wish to see a good, well run NHS and yet it's used as a football. Why not simply put all resources (financial & intellectual) into moving it forward. The constant scaremongering and massive restructuring every time a Govt changes doesn't help it one bit.

You could also apply the same principle to education, law & order, defence etc.

If I was in charge all school meals would be free and without the bureaucracy of means testing. The economies of scale would dictate a very low cost and the savings to the state in future health costs would more than cover it. Oh, and healthier citizens wouldn't be too bad either.

Mick, stopping free milk at schools was another policy that they pinched from Labour as Barbara Cartland had already withdrawn it from all bar primary schools. Not that I agreed with the decision but interesting how, just like selling off state assets, it's only remembered by some when the Tories copy Labour.

The pinnacle for red robbo was when, following a surprise night visit to the assembly line, management banned the workers from bringing sleeping bags in as many were asleep. Suffice to say they went on strike over the ban.

Regardless of what the bbc will have you believe the unions were by far the biggest factor, oil crisis aside, in the high inflation suffered and ultimately the decline in the UK.

With the Tories now acting more like the labour party with high tax, a brain drain, stifling investment, open doors etc I really can't see us ever regaining our place at the top table.
