Also a newbie here but as I understand it, buys and sells can often lag behind the current price because the orders take time to fulfil, meaning that when you issue the buy/sell order your order is fulfilled at the quoted price at the time of the order, even if the price changes before the order is fulfilled. This can create a condition where you buy or sell at a price that is higher or lower than at the time the order goes "on book".

of course this had to bounce +17% before my monthly investment is fulfilled. of course.
