Wilson what is the process for obtaining a CE mark do you know? Is the application publicly registered? How long might award take? Just wondering about all the new products NCYT seem to have just about ready to go...realistically how quickly could they get to market and how much public information would be available in advance? Would it be feasible for a CE mark and contract be announced at the same time for example? Or would there always be a public, documented process?

I haven’t dug through to the crowdfunder page but.initial question would be why this uses a blood test when the only covid blood test In use is for antibodies...also how the hell could it detect the virus 2 weeks ahead of other tests. Sounds very early stage and a long way off being a potential alternative Unfortunately.

What I mean is, it will give a better idea of infection at population level, if someone can isolate after a positive test (even if a false positive) then risk of transmission is removed, if that person needs to be at work/admitted to hospital/travel then they could get a PCR test for confirmation.

Have to say this lockdown won’t be over by Dec 2 with secondary schools and HE still open...

Essentially it’s not reliable enough but is a quick and cheap way of testing large numbers so a positive test would require confirmation if you needed to be 100% sure.

Boris did also briefly mention LAMP tests which I think may be more likely to be ours..anyone more knowledgeable on products/approval please advise

Agreed-as always that will be the big decision..what support for all those about to lose their income/business/entire livelihood ??

I hear a whisper that teaching unions are pushing for some kind of measures on secondary schools (data shows that they are as high drivers of infection as universities)-maybe they are still arguing about that! Have to say that based on the evidence it looks like they really should shut secondary schools to really get on top of things-or at least have some kind of part school/part home teaching to reduce numbers on site

Does anyone here have any possible insights about why the testing capacity is so much increased yet tests processed don’t seem to be rising as a result? Almost of all of the increased capacity is in Pillar 1 (NHS) and it’s reasonable to believe that the Primerdesign contract is a huge part of that. Now capacity is around 167,000 But testing actually processed seems to be stuck around the 70-80k daily mark, the rise in tests processed appears to be happening in Pillar 2!

False positives and negatives do occur...but they occur with the antibody tests as well of course (why point at one rather than the other)? Also there is the T cell element of how our bodies fights a virus. The theory about why children are less affected is that their T cell response is stronger - the virus doesn’t get the chance to establish itself and other antibodies may not be built up. So the same may also be true of asymptomatic adults, they have a very efficient T cell response so don’t get so ill and don’t test positive for antibodies even thought they have been infected with the virus. Much harder to test for T cell equivalent antibodies.

Shaun could you clarify please, you mention antigen tests I think as opposed to PCR tests but PCR are antigen tests aren’t they? Do you mean the lateral flow antigen tests (swab/saliva)? Sorry if I’m being thick

Is it possibly the fact that a US company has been given the contract, (along with one the other day to China?) rather than French or European companies getting them, that is causing the upset? Not the typical French way of doing things certainly! You have to wonder about the really big contracts if these are indicators (they may of course not be indicative of anything).

Doesn’t NCYT describe itself as a British/French company? Could present Macron with a bit of a dilemma!

Popz and Hamsters, the acquisition of IT-iS is complete and the government would have no reason to step in with regard to a takeover and the work being done by Novacyt. It is simply a change of control at the end of the day, the business entity remains the same.
