And how much would that cost to buy, reducing the cash pile that the bank is currently sitting on that could otherwise by returned to share holders by way of special dividend and/or ordinary dividend?

DOW Futures are down just now but still 2 days to US market opening on Monday, a lot can happen between now and then which will influence the DOW. Get a better idea where DOW is going late Monday morning.

Was there some news at 11:00 this morning that has spooked the market? Seems a steep drop from that time?

Looking at a couple of websites that display FTSE Futures; LIVEINDEX.ORG and IG.COM. There is a very large variation of values of FTSE Futures for this morning currently displayed; LIVEINDEX.ORG saying down -65, but IG.COM saying down -3? Anyone have any comments to explain why there is such a big variation between the two?

Using that rational then Lloyds should have fallen this morning in line with the FTSE? So Lloyds shrugged of this mornings fall with the FTSE but DOW goes down on opening and down Lloyds goes. But hey ho, as has been quoted on this board many times, shares go down as well as up.

Looks like SP going to be dragged back sub 48p by DOW. For a bank which is supposed to be focused primarily on the UK domestic market why is it influenced so much by DOW?

DOW has opened down -194 pts. If it falls further could drag Lloyds and the other banks back of todays highs.

Barclays and Natwest seem to be holding on to early gains, both still up over 2%. Lloyds has slipped back from over 2% up in early trading to 1.33% now?

I find it amusing the posts which comment on earlier posts by others who thought the SP would open lower this morning as if they knew it would rise!

I was expecting a fall this morning as around 07:45 the FTSE Futures on LIVEINDEX.COM were showing FTSE to open down -125 pts. It actually opened down -52 pts and is currently down -21 pts. Very nice to see the SP has done the opposite this time to what was anticipated.

Looks like another down day today with FTSE Futures. Could go sub 37p today?
