RE: EU Confirms DDR Mandatory17 May 2018 14:01
This has to be good news for SEE, but before we get too carried away let's remember that Jaguar cars now claim to have "drowsiness detection". All it does is monitor your driving style for wandering about in your lane. But it uses it as a flag for possible drowsiness/distraction. So that could be all that's required. However, I definitely think that because all new cars must have it, a system like that will become the base system. At the moment, it's still considered pretty "high end". But I think that we will see the new Skodas and Polos released in a few years with this kind of system. That will pretty much force the Audis, BMWs, Infinitis etc of the world to install something which makes them stand out. Step up "real" driver monitoring. So it will be fabulous news for us (I believe), but I don't for one second believe that mandatory drowsiness monitoring necessarily means something as sophisticated as SEE in every vehicle.
But massive growth for us regardless, and then longer term, it will surely filter down into lower end models, as always happens with tech.
