Not actually the case. The Germanic folk are more inclined to follow advice than the Anglo Saxon, who simply cannot be trusted to do as requested. Sage (which has a number of psycolgists on board) took the view that, in order for the Great British Public to take COVID seriously in the first instance, they needed to create a climate of fear, and thus good old Blighty ended up being the sick man of Europe because we counted every death where COVID was remotely relevant as a death cause BY COVID as opposed to WITH COVID. Any, boy, did it work, there are still people wearing masks whilst driving cars ON THEIR OWN....massive damage done to the mental wellbeing of a significant number of UK citizens.
Conversely, Germany, not having to create a climate of fear, because their people are generally more inclined to follow orders, took the view that they only needed to record deaths caused as a direct result of COVID, which is the reason for the significantly lower numbers in the first wave.
If you want to check out the facts, download the NHS COVID deaths data spreadsheet, do the odd sift and sort, and you'll see that in the UK, 91% of all COVID deaths in the first wave were in those over 60 with 98% having at least one pre existing condition.
