I don't see what you mean by 'in the current situation'. As far as I can tell, nothing has actually happened, just words from people I don't trust.

What does he mean we’d lose everything - ACA is still a profitable company despite the problems.

Is he really expecting sympathy because he’d have to write down the value of ACA if he bought for £1.46?! In that case I have a simple solution - offer £3 and increase the value of ACA on the books.

In any case I’m sure that can’t be right. ACA is already a subsidiary of Barrick so Barrick shows ACA’s assets on their own balance sheet as if they owned them all, they don’t show ACA as a fixed asset investment (which btw are also held at market value, not cost).

To me the idea that aca has to accept Barrick’s current offer or the shareholders all lose money doesn’t stand up to reason. If aca lose money that will hurt all shareholders, especially it’s largest shareholder, Barrick. They want to get a good deal for themselves but also don’t want to shoot themselves in the foot. If the offer is rejected it’s not like Barrick can say well, you’re screwed then.

Assuming they can’t take over aca they still have an interest in aca being profitable. I mean, Barrick hasn’t got any dividends from aca for 2 years either. So if the deal is rejected then what? Stalemate I guess. Barrick stands to lose out from that more than anyone

Much as I was not a fan of the rampant optimism here previously, I'm also surprised by the sudden pessimism. An offer is just an offer and hopefully will be rejected. As many have said here many times, nothing's sorted until everything's sorted.

The only good thing that has happened for me in the last 2 days is that I've made a firm commitment to never again purchase shares speculatively. All my speculative 'investments' have gone down - ACA and GFRD to name just 2. Investments made on sound investment principles (based on FSs rather than rumors) have made modest but respectable gains.

For well over a year guys have been saying that good news is right around the corner. Anyone who says differently is dismissed as a shorter. Emotional reactions, guess-work and hear-say. Meanwhile price is down 30% is a few months. I'm not going to read this rubbish anymore. I have the shares I have, I won't sell, I'll just sit on it for at least a few months before checking in on it again.

At least I didn't 'average down' at 200p.

Why do you think this is the lowest it will go? It was under 100 six months ago.

Parterre, The way I see it Return on capital is lower than other miners pound for pound. Of course that’s just based on the last FS, not on what might be around the corner, but if I didn’t have shares already I wouldn’t invest here. It’s only because I have shares that I refuse to sell because maybe there’ll be news soon. I remain hopeful but sceptical

Supercharger, my timeline might be different from others. I’m going to need cash in a couple of months so I’m going to have to sell something. It’s either ACA or LTI. LTI has gone up about 30% in the last year, ACA has been a rollacoaster. I won’t sell at current price and really hope you guys are right that we’ll get good news soon, but people have been saying that for over a year so I’m somewhat skeptical. Time will tell

I’d like to hear STB’s answer as well. My worry is that mining in Tanzania will become untenable. ACA then won’t be profitable. Sure it might be bought out, but maybe not for the value mentioned on this thread. Maybe £2-£2.50 a share is as good as it gets. Maybe not even that much.

I’ve looked back over this thread and it seems the feeling of “shorters are pushing down the price but we’ll get good news soon” has been going on for a year.

Personally I don’t see any logic to the price being lower now than it was just just before the announcement from Barick but this is where we are. I really want to believe you guys cos I’ve got a fair amount of money tied up in this and I could do with greater liquidity soon, but I can’t shake the feeling that maybe the optimism here is unwarranted and the market isn’t being so irrational.

Like I said, I really hope I’m wrong. I’ve already held these shares longer than I normally would.
