An article I'll be ignoring TBH. Whenever a pundit implies that fundamental investing principles have changed, I'm inclined to ignore them.

At least a few of the points made were silly or incorrect.

I thought about getting in here a while ago but decided against it. The fact that the shares are cheaper now than a few months ago means nothing to me. If the company were to fail, investors will lose however much they put in, whether they bought shares at 10p or at 0.001p.

I'm not saying this will go bust, I have absolutely no idea. It's just a risk that I can't stomach. I'm not a shareholder, shorter, ramper or basher. I'm just a guy who has read quite a bit from this board and it's painful stuff. Don't invest based on share price and never invest what you can't afford to lose.

How your investments behave is not nearly as important as how you behave.

I get the turmoil, I really do. If you hold and the price goes down it's gonna hurt. If you sell and the price goes up it's gonna hurt. Best thing would be to make a decision and then never look back, but we're only human, of course you're gonna look back.

I don't think there's an answer for people with this temperament. If you can't bear to see your investments going down, you probably should never invest in any shares at all ever.

Markets be crazy

Of course they want to short high and close low, and that's just as easy as trying to buy low and sell high. In reality, nobody knows what will happen to the sp. If a year ago they were 100% certain that we would be where we are today they would have taken a larger short position. Just as ppl here who say things like "this will be £3 by the end of the week" don't really mean it. If they were 100% sure of that they would put their life savings here. But they don't (or at least I jolly well hope they don't) because they don't really know any more than I do.

I also want to point out that a MM who gets it right twice in a row is just as likely to get it wrong the next time as anyone else. I believe the shorters are speculating akin to flipping coins. Flipping heads twice doesn't make flipping heads again any more likely.

Also, this is a flawed statistic because they increase their shorts when they see it working. So the fact that Metro is so heavily shorted shows that they had it right in the past, it provides no cue as to what's coming.

Mr B, looking back it's clear that they were right to short from the level this stock was at some months ago, but imo this has changed from being overpriced to being well under-priced. If I had a short here I would close it and go long.

The analogy made earlier today was of AAL. It took AAL almost 3 years to get from the bottom to £20, and it might still have a way to go.

Why do ppl keep saying that shorters will get burnt? If they started their short positions at £40, or even at £5 they must be quids in despite the rise today.

Just had a quick look at PDL. Made huge losses the last 2 years. Net assets is £326M and a loss of £258M this year alone. They can't survive much longer with results like that. Why do you think it's a bargain?

I just averaged down at £1.70. I need a sp of £3.30 to break even. I feel confident I'll end up in profit here. Not as much as I initially hoped, but still.

I'm here for the long haul so I have no reason to check this board so often. I was checking because there was some useful information and insight, but that now appears to not be the case. The forum seems to be flooded with bashers, which I take as a good sign. But, the occasional useful post is now hard to find among the muck. Much healthier for me to just park my money and leave it. See where it is in a year. GLA

I would be fine (as far as it goes) with the loss today if I had kept my holding to my normal asset allocation. I got caught up in the optimism that this was a bargain that I overexposed myself here so the drop hit harder. I had to sell some at a loss to rebalance my portfolio before it got worse. Lesson learnt (again), never allocate too much to any company. Never. Any company.

I’m happy to keep what I have left for the long haul and the price doesn’t bother me so much. I can hold for years. Provided the bod take a bit more responsibility here. The RNS was just shambolic. A hint of “we’ve got this under control” would have done the trick.

I'm in a similar situation Pat. I sold about half my shares at £2.10 because I was too heavily invested here (I stupidly added more than my normal asset allocation based on optimism, that's the bit that really stings for me) and needed to rebalance my portfolio. I'm still invested here but my remaining shares would need to go up a lot for me to break even

Dogger69, an investment forum is not the most supportive place, but if you're really feeling that bad, please please please call someone - family, friends, therapist, whatever...

Pokerchips, are you referring to Brexit?

Does anyone really think Metro won't be able to raise the MREL in time, one way or another? If not then the dip in sp is purely sentiment-driven imo
