The getaway starts today already articles saying which motorways will be ****arks. I take it the uk markets will be closed for public holidays and a down day to finish. Debs updating next week so will have to find time for the presentation unless the holiday wins. I'm planning to miss traffic today but hopefully will miss it setting off at 4am tomorrow. There is some info here https://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/uploads/attachment_data/file/418147/Spousal_TIIN_final.pdf I'm not a taxspert but would guess there are fees for moving the shares and not even sure if you actually sell and rebuy with costs using the extra APS allowance. I dont intend dying just to see how it works. Its better than not being able to have the extra allowance, after all you might have already used up your current isa allowance. I also expect inheritance tax could also be an issue if your over that allowance but if its only £50k not a problem. Still, you have to think of the tax savings over the years compared to costs to move, which you would have anyway without the allowance. You might also have a lump sum from any life insurance. Personal circumstances might dictate any course of action. Your joint account would likely be frozen until probate is sorted hence why we have x3 bank accounts, one each plus a joint, allowing at least one useable.

Like jokes, timing seems to bring success in trading. Debs up 2.5 percent so well done again. You dont need to go hunting my history, boring as that would be to see what I have been buying. I have added to LLOY and TOWN on recent pullbacks and bought back some of the MRW I sold but only a small amount. Other 2017 buys have been CLLN, VOD and PNN all holdings added too for balance, income and on dips. Looking to add maybe more HSBA and have an order in for some TRIG on the offer which is likely to get scaled back. Might sell something in the isa to make more room. I also expect to take part in UKW offer this year too. Debs on a dip maybe but could say that about anything that pays a nice divi. This is not a recommendation but suits my plans and reserve the right to stick it all on some Hail Mary aim mining share that might double overnite! Some things still expensive, like ULVR and I scoffed at adding at 32 quid only to see uncle Warren push em up to 40. Still they have upped the divi so will hang on a tad longer. Anyway highlight of the day was finding a Buzzard perched in a tree top that happened to be same height as the path I was on until he opened his wings and gently glided away. Much more fun than shares soaring.

The upward trend continues. Is it following the improvements within the company and the sales of engines? arsenal58, I would be interested to read how I could have made a fiver per share over the last few months or to be more specific how I could do it in the next few months. Being cynical I could tell you the winning euro lottery numbers for last week but its next weeks that you would be more interested in. Im not saying it can not be done, did you in fact achieve this? Of course you are probably a much better trader than me although that is not hard to be as I dont really trade. I have looked into doing a bit of range trading as I can do this automatically with one of my brokers and I suppose the bigger amount of capital I use the bigger the win (or loss) as dealing costs will reduce winning (of add to losses) I suppose I do this to some extent as I will reinvest dividends when I think the SP is low or stick it in the pot when its not. Sometimes the divis just get used up elsewhere that is "cheaper" than putting it back from where it came. Looking forward to that fiver in June !

Dierich - with ring pull cans it is not a problem. Midway - with the reductions in tax free dividends it makes sense to shove em in the ISA now they are giving off 6.5 percent. QE - welcome back although you are never really away are these for keeps or another trade. You seem to be doing ok with them. driftking 27 - Yes its a great company but is it a great investment? I have not kept track of the P/E over time but it was not this high. The bid has pushed it on that bit more. Of course it could grow into the metrics over time but risks one bad quarter knocking it for six if its on a tightrope. Although to be fair it has been expensive for some time and keeps getting more expensive. Its track record over the years has also been great but I suspect that returns from here might be harder to come by especially if the changes weaken the company whilst trying to hold off a bid. If the door is knocked on again whats left in the box to fend off with. Uncle Warren doesn't really like hostile but those Brazilian boys would. I suppose the good thing for me is the divi increase, that way I'm taking some cream off the top but still hanging onto the bottle. Lets just hope those margins can be achieved so that its more covered by FCF.

Grayling, is the NACC going to take them on with minimum wage just to read some docs? or are they going to pay a good rate and get someone decent like the Thai version of Cormoran Strike to do the digging. Maybe they will only take on 3 of the 6 and pocket the difference?

ARSENAL17. I would take the whole salt pot not just a pinch. You really have to see the whole report to get the full context anyway and they dont like them to be floated about for free. Market falling back a tad over the last few days but RR continues to climb, must be that new engine!

Second Price Monitoring Extension. With the SP down 7%. I take it that someone wanted to sell a few that was slightly over the normal size. Anyway I used the opportunity to grab a few more as its bounced off the 270's a few times and Im generally bullish on how well they are doing and the improvements that are coming along. I'm not sure it a great price but hopefully it will grow into its bigger boots

I stayed in the Holiday Inn in the states, cheap n cheerful but the one near the NEC serves crap food, although I didnt stay so cant comment. Then again I sometimes I stay in camping barns so a working tap for water is a luxury, just roll out your sleeping bag on the concrete floor. Strangely Mrs G wont come with me but I suspect it might be more to do with the days 70 mile bike ride. Maybe I should do a five star hotel coast to coast jolly just to see if she fancies it and test if its the ride or the accommodation that puts her off. You can easily make money from shares on holiday ......... just book when the divi is paid. Debs showing it ended up a smidgin and the UK is going to be sunnier than Turkey. So Im staying at home this weekend and might even get my legs out

Ship. Tesco's not in my good books at the moment. Came back from holiday early doors and wanted to buy some milk for the morning coffee at the 24Hr place but its had its hours cut so closes at midnight. I crossed town to the Extra and that has suffered the same fate. So Mrs G had no coffee and I took it black. No wonder they couldn't afford to pay me some dividends, they wont let the shoppers in! Bought back a few of those that were sold earlier but it was more of a tiding up job with different brokers, which are now co located. The PF also has a tad more headroom and with the lower price here would allow me to obtain nearly all. Even so with markets still riding high (ish) I might wait longer just to see what else pop up

I now have some room in the ISA to dabble on the "offer" I expect this to be over subscribed and thus scaled back. So must mull how much to ask for, expecting this to be reduced. I suppose I could buy more anyway on the open market assuming the SP falls in line with the offer. Just wondering if I should sell something in the ISA just to create more headroom in the hope of getting something close to what I actually want. Any surplus cash could be used to rebuy what was sold ....... unless it rises too much. Just mulling options out loud!

Dan, The the fact I'm losing money on my investment (and paying tax, does) dosn't ?? matter?? The SP will be what the SP is. The tax is something you can avoid. Would you prefer to pay tax on top of your losses? Plus when the shares do rise again no CGT to pay For Disclosure:- I am not a qualified tax adviser ..........but have qualified to avoid the tax!
