things look ok. Some improvement in some metrics but with so many adjusted numbers or just numbers its hard to spot the details. Still the flat divi looks good! Should meet general expectations

A profit is a profit as they say. Add that to the look after the pennies .... saying and your coppers should be ok. Dry powder for next time always helpful even if it goes elsewhere

danieth, you can only open one shares isa per tax year. I made the mistake of adding funds to an old broker and bought shares. I did fess up to the tax man (it was a woman actually) She told me to sight tight until the end of the tax year but nothing came of it. I assume it was because I remained with the limits albeit split between x2 brokers and seen as an "honest mistake" Still they might come back to me I think that they have 6 years. I suppose that is why they want your NI numbers so they can cross check, otherwise we might cheat and put all our Vodafone shares in several ISA's in one go!

I bought two utilities on the knock in the news, at or around yearly lows and below 200 day averages that also balanced my portfolio. Debs was considered. It has higher yields, better divi cover and has mainly positive looking forward news. In fact its gone purple in my spreadsheet as the yield is so high. Maybe I should have split it 3 ways but SSE and CNA have close ex divi days that was also on the back of my mind. Debs rising faster than the other two today and the news might change into some facts when any manifestos get published. I'm hoping things wont be as bad as could be. I have some shares in Iweb and it does ok for simple cheap trading. HL is another I have used good website and customer services but expensive. I also use iii its a bit inbetween both, it costs £80 a year but I get x2 "free" trades a quarter which normally cost a tenner. They also have a monthly top up facility where you can buy shares for £1.50 if that is what you want to try. Generally you have to pay something one way or another and you would need to check which one suits your needs. My example used Iweb, I think its part of Halifax brand. It costs a fiver to buy a share (plus stamp duty but you have to pay that anywhere) To open an account also costs £25 but there are no more fees. Others charge a percentage of your holdings. Iweb used to charge £250 to open an account which seemed steep so I'm glad its been reduced again. The following year you wont have to pay that £25 hence why my example said it would be cheaper the second year. Have a look on the NG. bb. If Vodafone sold off part of itself and did a special dividend you could get hit quite bad now the rules have changed regarding how returns have to be paid out. Generally its classed (and taxed) as income. At least in an ISA the return would be tax free. I would also keep any divis in the ISA and buy more shares and sell bigger parts outside the isa if you needed the cash. There was an article on low cost platforms on monevator website and the daily mail's this is money site do know which one is most up to date but should point you in the right direction on picking whats best for you depending on size of funds, how many trades etc. I have some shares in Iweb and it does ok for simple trading.

Could say the say for chucking darts, using moneys of my own educated guesses. Mrs G complaining about delivery, apparently Debs uses the smallest bags to deliver whereas Phase Eight sent them is boxes! So dont get as creased. Did a Fifty Fifty on adding more of this or CNA but the latter won. Divi bigger here though but that extra debt worries me slightly. Sill its worked for Queeny adding here for a quick trade a few times maybe I'll be back when we get Shippys 40p ..... now that is some yield.

Unless you think its going to hell in a hand cart why not reinvest those divis whilst the SP is lower, buy even more shares, with bigger yields until time in the market takes over. With some patience, luck, inflation and those re-investments, things should turn around as you average down

danieth, as they have already announced the reduction in the tax free allowance once, I cant see that being reversed and increased next time. I suspect its just a temporary situation and the allowance will be cut again at the next opportunity as the extra taxes have to come from somewhere. Better little bits from everywhere than big lumps from limited places. Tax on £20k of shares over the limit would be approx £80 for a normal tax payer and £140 to move into an ISA and that amount would be slightly less the following year. So would pay for itself in less than two years. Still it might be better that you do actually pay the tax then they are less likely to ask me for more! I suspect there might be room for a small tax free divi allowance to be kept on just to stop some granny having to write a tiny cheque to the tax man every year as she doesn't have enough shares to make it cost effective to sell em. It makes sense to reduce costly admin then they can send more people into football clubs to make sure they are paying their wack Good luck with your mulling
