Most of the $'s went with the Verizion sale. It euros now! Likely to be the direction indicator today futures were down but turning higher and pound falling. So markets not so strong and stable and volatility expected. Still its just a day so not long in investing time frames. Where does that leave Debs? Could there be a big dip and will profits tick up when all the new MP's pop in to buy new suits and dresses. I'm glad the mist is clearing .... a bit anyway. The consolidation thing is cost neutral its either or but not both. It all depends on your average buy price, if its lower than 1012.5 you have gained if you paid more you have lost, as you overpaid. Just the same as if you bought two fivers for seven quid compared to someone else who paid £12 cos he heard how good a deal you were boasting about by buying two fivers. Now I come along and say you cant keep your two fivers cos Im going to swap them for just one £10 note.You both now have a tenner in value but one is out of pocket and will be a tad upset when the deal is done and will complain that they had two notes before and now they only have one and its worth less than they originally paid!. Hopefully you have followed the logic and my analogy and the best bit is that there is still more to come as we have all the share buybacks and the company is stronger with better metrics such as, for those too lazy to DYOR, the debt has reduced by £11Bn!

I suppose I could turn it around and ask how much did they pay for the asset and how much its worth? Has that created a gain for the shareholders.? Should they have sold it? Will the smaller company be stronger after the deal What effect has it had on debt? If yes to a sale what should they have done with the money? Options are:- 1. Pay off debt 2. Keep it in the company for normal ongoing operations 3. Buy something else 4. Return it to share holders via a dividend/buyback or mixture of both I cant think of any other options but now you can use your own logic not mine and explain why its a bad deal or not and how your option would work best for shareholders. The reference price for the deal was 1012.5p and you got 84.375p on all 12 shares and "lost" just one but the shares didnt drop by the divi amount either. You cant go ex div and not affect the SP it had to reduce by the divi amount or you reduce the shares by the same ratio or dont you understand that? I suspect that you have to think of it differently. It was a forced sale of 1/12th of your shares at 1012.5p and a return of your capital in order to make the now smaller company better for the longer term.

So far you only have 3/4 of the deal back and the rest is being fed back daily. The details of the deal were laid out on 19th Apr and had an ex divi a month later. Ample time to "get out" if you didnt like the details. I know some who did eventually for tax reasons and speculation that the deal would push the price up and they could get back in cheaper at a later date. Sundayboy, I guess my efforts to assist you failed then. Although to be fair I've just had a quick look on the investor relations page to see if there was anything to help investors understand the benefits of the deal and something that would explain better how it works and its not something that jumps out. There is a bit on the mechanics of the divi and consolidation but I take it you have seen that. Vodafone did have a segment when they sold Verizion Im more in agreement with buddhablog that this is a steady eddie. Good luck with your next adventure and you might be right to take your cash off the table. I'm not too sure how the remaining quarter of the sale will enhance our returns by doing the buy back and it is likely to take a while to see its benefit in your pocket either via bigger divis or a better SP at the end of the buy back period. Additionally there is another 14% of the asset likely to be sold and we might be having the same conversations again in 2019. I hope that a cash divi and not another buyback. One last question, if I may, would you have prefered them not to sell part of the asset?

Well I suppose the lower the SP the better whilst the share buyback in on the go. Then again it looks like Diane Abbot has been doing the figures on the RNS's. They done seem to add up or maybe I'm missing something. Buy low sell high is what we are told to do and I'm skeptical of boards deciding to become investment managers and buying when the SP is up here. I would have prefered them to give us the £835m or is it £835m-£150m in cash so I can decide where and when to buy

If you are thinking about that, why not sell pre divi and have all your cash up front rather than having to wait weeks for the divi to show up? Unless of course you think it will rise on ex divi day or your CGT bill will be lowered by taking a divi instead

I suppose its how the market reacts and the expectation. I think the polls are showing the difference down to a point on one poll and maybe a hung parliament. Although recent history has show polls to be wrong, so why not again. I suspect the pound value changing might be the decider with Voda as the UK side of things is relatively small and if the markets don't get whats expected and drops then this might rise as the euro divi is worth more. Sell off not happening atm but maybe we will get a Brexit type buying opportunity on Friday or be just chucking away our dosh if it goes to hell in a hand cart. I'm still sitting on my hands but maybe hindsight will reveal all.

As pointed out they returned £3.2Bn so you would expect the capital to reduce by same amount. You could have kept all your shares but they would be down by 84.375p. As I said 6 of one ..............
