Except that Mr Read has stated that it wont "rise" anymore. I suspect he plans to try and keep the divi "as is" effectively a cut against inflation, in the hope that in time the deal sees cash flows increase and then they can get back to a more even keel on the financial front.

That's not to say the board wont change that policy if things dont go to plan or there is execution risk in the deal. The market might be happy if a cut was announced as its seems to be already being priced in

Purchased "off book" and is worth over 5% of the market cap. Its been refurbished so shouldn't need too much early spending and currently well occupied, earning adding another £1.69M.

I take it that it was funded from £36M 10 year loan from Scottish Widows. Add to that the £13 that they paid off for the IGC loan maybe they only have £3 left. I suppose it could be used for running costs and any minor alterations further ahead.

Just have to wait and see if the Brexit thing forces this to take a knock. Was that the reason for the recent dip in SP I wonder. Interesting to see how this all feeds through to the bottom line on the next update (or two). These have gained over 10% since my last purchase which is a fraction over the annual divi but I think I will keep holding and look to add on the next dip maybe around Mar 29th and Fridays always seem a bit edgy for shares.

My only concern is it was being tipped in investors Chronicle recently, it just confirms my bias.

I can't believe that the rules can be so wholly. Tesco admit guilt, pay a fine, using shareholders funds. Then the SP gets hit so double whammy for shareholders. The "scapegoats" are thrown under the bus but found to be innocent, years later. Would make a good movie!

I felt sorry for Morriston, their employe gets convicted, goes to jail and again it's the shareholders that come off worse again paying the fine.

So what is wrong? The rules, the audit standards, the enforcement process. It's quite clear who suffers on every occasion. It's doesn't even sound like a lack of evidence issue either by the sound of it.

I expect shareholders will be paying compo soon too

Well I'm not expecting a good or for that matter bad update this week. More a case of same old same old. There might be tweets here and there, "signs of improvement" statements and "responding" to market conditions etc.

Will there be some sort of relief in pressure or will the concerns over divi cover and affordability continue. Unless there is an unexpected bigger cut to expenses I see it holding a similar course. Is that still towards the rocks or the safety of a port.

Tend to agree on the capital and find a divi cut hurts me more although sometimes it's for the best, if things are done the right way. I don't want to start the divi v no divi argument again. A forced cut tends to be a double whammy with SP going down too and it can take a few years for that to flow through to some sort of improvement.

I still like my flow of divi's coming in as it means cash is always just around the corner and ready to invest in the next bit of income bring opportunity especially when the market it down. Your stuffed if you don't have any income.

As for crossing the road with shoelaces tied, some of us like a challenge and it's a great sense of achievement when you complete. Just pick a snowy day when the motorway is blocked, try not to slip

Why did you buy the shares? What has changed? Normally your expected to hold for the medium term, 5 years or so. Markets have ups and downs and having just got back from the shops it looking like an up date today for the PF but not Vod.

I see it as a double edged sword. If your buying its better to have low prices for longer (and higher yield) and compound those returns. If you bought for a quick capital gain .... well thats not worked out and a backstop limit should have been set.

Unlike most, Im glad the SP has dropped it allows me to add more cheaper but Im a buyer. If I wanted to sell well Id be worried. Still you could have bought at 240!

OK the the NAV is up and so is the divi but still ......

Well Just a couple of weeks to the divi so take a holiday from all these Brexit woes and world shenanigans and Bob's your auntie, the dosh will be sat in your broking account.

If the £ sinks more divi if it rises more beers on your jollies. One thing the market doesn't like is uncertainty and there is plenty of that about.

At least dividends are more stable. If the pound takes a tumble the divi from here might compensate so adding more usd or euro earners like Rdsb and Ulvr might prove beneficial.

I still think Dog suits me better. Sorry I missed what all started this so can't comment. Find common ground, like both wanting to make money from Vodafone. There are several ways to do it and different time scales. Some short, some go for a quick buck or collect dividends.

No point getting personal cos something doesn't work for you. As far as brexit goes everyone is split, the country, political parties, families. Even God struggled to decide.

Just keep some powder dry for the next opportunity. now off to peep at RMG to see if it's worth buying back.

Wow a God! I dont think he followed my overall thoughts generally regarding shares and Vodafone and will do his own thing anyway, as shouldn't we all. Then any wrong (or right) decisions are our own fault. Thinking about it, you have it backwards, shouldn't it be Dog!

Oh well the good news is Ive acquired the rights to another dividend which should arrive before Brexit (Sorry Ive said the wrong word) and its cheaper to reinvest that it has been lately, excluding the recent dip obviously.

Nick Read said the board would decide on the divi policy, so it's not going to be him. He might have some sway as he has their ears. Anyway unless trading has go to hell in a handcart in the last month or two divi will be maintained as it's only the interim and they have more time until the next set of results when the policy will be stated.

Was also tipped in Investors Chronicle a week or so back. I think I've seen it tipped 3 or 4 times lately

Most of those mentioned have regular income so aid the status quo. Normally some sort of hit takes place resulting in a change of board and then direction. I suppose looking ahead they see increasing earnings to eventually reduce debt ....... Until the next big deal comes along. Like Liberty now. It sounds great if the plan stays on track but occasionally events overtake.

I suppose the other question is what would happen if they didn't do the deal. As for valuation change to 220 and why I could also reverse the question about the fall. Hence why I like the steadier dividend

As for the bounce it looks like Mr markets being kinder over the last couple of days and Oct will be passed, a month renowned for sharp corrections. Maybe I should save my Is allowance for this time next year.

No I'm not blind, many have made a case over whether any divi should be paid at all and should be reinvested in growing team company. I did also say I preferred low debt who wouldn't

Growth can come in different forms though, even if the SP stayed exactly where it is forever by reinvesting the divi you can compound creating growth. I've stated previously why I like dividends and the regular flow of cash coming in, hence why I buy income shares like Vodafone.

The bean counters decide how to managed the debt and its a tool in their armoury. Going back to the house purchase, why would you pay off your mortgage if you were on a 1% rate? You can get better investing and inflation eats away at the amount over time effectively reducing it.

I agree things will change and then paying down that debt might become more of a priority. Vodafone have highlighted that debt will be at the top of the range and are targeting a reduction. Let's hope trading allows this to happen. Again going back to the house purchase what happens if you loose your job. Your mortgage might be cheap but if you can't pay the interest you will lose your roof.

I suspect there are more people that own a phone than a house. You can't manage without a phone but you can without a house. Maybe the older generation might disagree.
