IAG management cannot be THAT stupid (I've been proved wrong before..) to think that giving execs a pay rise and then expect other normal staff to be ok with that? Rising cost of living, customer abuse (both directions) are not conducive to happy and engaged employees.
Give a little, good publicity goes a long way, fair treatment of staff lets customers know you will treat them well.
If you treat your staff like cr*p, what level of service would your customers get?
Now, if they turned around and said that they would freeze all management pay for two years then they would have a valid point to withhold pay rises, but they didn't.
This behaviour is not unique, happens all the time across the board.
