Although I agree a ceasefire will come, it does not bode well for Western countries. Russia has made 'business alliances' with other Eastern counties , either by selling them cheap fuel and stolen grain
But, if there is a ceasefire, it will be a very uncomfortable one, NATO will now feel threatened that Russia will be emboldened and so look to take other ex-USSR countries and expand into Europe. Putin needs to be got rid off, hopefully not replaced by another egomaniacal numpty.

New alliances have been drawn up, Europe and US are out of favour. I feel a new cold war era will develop and likely involve more countries even though emerging countries need the consumer markets of Europe and US. Time will tell.

The problem is when a company says they are making a profit the employees who took a pay cut to keep their jobs want their pay reinstated. Does not help when the media piles in on top adding fuel to the fire.
Almost like stirring up the baying crowd before a public hanging.

Jtan, I do agree that striking is not the way to negotiate, reminds me too much of the 70's. I hated the 70's.

On the flip side, as someone with more clarity than I pointed out, how else will there ever be equality of pay if people do not stand their ground and demand a fairer wage? Not greed, but fairer. On this I am ok with.

As a company, you pay people a decent wage, you look after them and they will take care of your customers.
Also, knowing the 'work culture' of hourly workers in the UK, as a company they probably get their share of.. slackers and p155 takers?

I don't know where you have seen that info, but let me tell you first hand, airports are packed, I mean rammed. If that is people avoiding travel god help all mankind when people start to travel.

Your assumption is very much misguided. Only people not travelling are those not wanting to or cannot afford to. Everyone else is on the move.
And willing to bet it's not about the cost, it's about the lack of trust with governments that people feel they may not be able to travel at some point in the future.

'Net Zero' is or was merely a trend that has now taken a backseat. Anyone that believes net zero is achievable is a fool.
You cannot make or do anything without producing carbon, somewhere along the chain. For the world to become 'net Zero' humans must become extinct and take all the animals with them. It's just another example of green washing. But instead of being honest about it, they would rather lie and make sheep think this can happen.
Why can they just admit that this was just to appease those that see climate change as entirely our fault. I would rather them deal with pollution, plastic in the oceans, recycle management, more sustainable products, etc, things we can do. Yes the planet is heating up, maybe just the cyclical pattern?
Who pays the green levy? We do, the public pays for this agenda.
As I heard someone say before about India, the poor are more worried about lack of clean water and food today, than not being able to breath tomorrow.

Chandy, I completely agree, just western media optics for the gallery. The west must never be seen to be on the back foot or making rash, poorly thought out decisions.

The war in Ukraine will end when Putin ends it or once 'we' decide that Ukraine needs to allow for the breakaway Dombass region to be independent of Ukraine. This could have been sorted out without war during the last 8 years.
Now is looks like the west may end up with a bloody nose.
I also think, people now realise that they have been lied to over so many things from WMD, to the pandemic and now this Ukraine war. We will never know the real truth.

I hate unions Jtan, but when you do not pay workers a decent wage, especially when the CEO to 'shopfloor' worker gap is so huge, you will get resentment and rightly so if you make it glaringly obvious by touting bonuses.
How governments claim to want capitalism to be free, yet refuse a good basic minimum wage? They want slave labour but capitalist ideals... does not work.
Where I live minimum wage (not really a thing here) but if it was is about $25p/h.

I like the Japanese way, the train workers went on strike... by going to work and doing their job, just not taking payment for rides. Customers were happy, management, not so much.

I'm all for a fair wage for all, as it is the right thing to do. But why pis* off t he paying public, wait until summer is over, profits high then call for strike action if they do not get a rise.
Pay equality starts with the lowest paid, not the highest.

Countries with the lowest unionisations have some of the best paid workforces and strong economies..
